Strategy
Poppy is best understood as a all-rounder survivalist.
Poppy's passive ability is Panic Pop.
Poppy is a great choice for beginning players. Her Stealth and Movement Speed, combined with her passive ability Panic Pop, provide good recovery from mistakes, making her ideal for learning the basics. As an all-rounder Toon she does not specialize as a Distractor or Extractor but leans towards being a Survivalist with her ability to outrun Twisteds after taking a hit. For optimal early-game performance, equip Extraction-based Trinkets such as Wrench alongside speed-enhancing Trinkets like Pink Bow. This combination effectively improves her Movement and Extraction Speed and is easily accessible early on, making it ideal for new players. Other helpful early Trinkets include Speedy Shoes and Party Popper.
Poppy is less advantageous for experienced players since her ability only activates upon losing a Heart, limiting its overall viability. It is most effective when dealing with large swarms of Twisteds, especially if multiple healers are present. If you are confident in your kiting abilities and tend to adapt quickly, consider selecting Boxten as your starter instead. For those who enjoy Poppy's playstyle, transitioning to Looey is a natural next step, as they share similar passive mechanics and are confirmed friends. Note that Poppy is not the best choice for runs attempting to spawn Twisted Dyle, since her ability becomes far less useful due to his instant-kill attack and her stats do not provide any specific advantage by base.
If a teammate cannot escape a Twisted -- whether because they are playing a slower Toon, being chased by a fast Twisted like Twisted Pebble, or are low on Stamina -- it may be viable to intervene by taking a hit from the chasing Twisted. This is especially effective with Blushy Bat or Soul Sword equipped. By absorbing the hit, you gain a speed boost that lets both you and your teammate escape, even if significant Stamina was spent reaching them. This strategy is most worthwhile when protecting low-health Main Toons like Shelly or Sprout, whose abilities are invaluable to the team and who can heal you afterward. Inexperienced players should not attempt this tactic, as misjudging it can turn a rescue into sabotage.
During Panic Mode, if you cannot reach the Elevator in time, it is advisable to walk to conserve or regenerate Stamina, then intentionally take a hit for the speed boost before sprinting to the Elevator. Failing to reach the Elevator results in instant death, whereas losing one or two Hearts to Twisteds provides an opportunity for survival.
For Trinket combinations, Pink Bow enables Poppy to outrun all Twisteds outside of Panic Mode except Twisted Dyle (26.9 run speed), and pairs well with Speedy Shoes (28.2 run speed) or Vanity Mirror (35 run speed during Panic Mode). For extraction focus, Magnifying Glass takes full advantage of her 3-star Extraction Speed and Skill Check, pairing effectively with Vee's Remote for quicker floor progression, Participation Award for maximizing Skill Check extraction, or Train Whistle to extract without being slowed by Twisted Finn. Blushy Bat synergizes incredibly well with Panic Pop and is a must-have for newer players, giving generous escape time after a hit. Soul Sword similarly synergizes with her ability by slowing nearby Twisteds while she gains speed, allowing easy escapes.
Appearance
Personality
Poppy is a bubbly and energetic Toon who is loud and self-confident, often speaking with multiple exclamation marks or in caps. She describes herself not as happy but as optimistic. Her appearance is kept with care, and she frequently compliments others, sometimes suggesting fashion additions and changes. She is prone to ditziness, such as believing Vee about an improbable prize, not hearing Shelly, and forgetting Brightney's lampshade color. She is confirmed to be great friends with Looey. It is heavily implied that Poppy is addicted to Pop, a drink brand she appears to be a mascot for. Her room in Roleplay Mode is filled with Pop bottles and cans, and in her dialogue with Astro, he worries she is losing sleep due to her addiction, which she brushes off without concern.

Trivia
- At the end of Poppy's 'Meet Poppy' teaser video, morse code can be heard that translates to 'KEEP YOUR ALLIES CLOSE.' This phrase is also one of the texts that can appear when starting a new run at the bottom of the elevator screen.
- In the same teaser video, Dandy is seen with Poppy, and Twisted Dandy's song can be heard throughout the video.
- Poppy appears to be a marketing mascot for a soft drink company, as she is printed on every vending machine across all Floors. The company is trademarked as 'Poppy Pop,' which may explain her fondness for Pop drinks seen in her Roleplay Mode room.
- Her name is a pun on both the feminine name Poppy and her status as a bubble, which pops easily when touched and produces a popping sound.
- Bubble tea is Poppy's favorite beverage, as shown in her interaction with Teagan, which may reflect her own nature as a bubble.
- Poppy's designation is SC-003, with SC standing for Side Character. Before v0.12, she used to be C-001, with C possibly meaning Common, hinting she may have been the first Common Toon made. Since the 2025 Christmas Event, Cosmo was revealed as the actual first Common Toon made in Bobette's gossip about him.
- Poppy does not know how to drive, as confirmed in her interaction with Vee.
- Poppy is not good at cleaning, as confirmed in her interaction with Tisha.
- A small doodle of Poppy and Toodles can be found pinned on her vanity mirror in her Roleplay Mode room, possibly hinting at a close relationship. Boxten's interaction with Toodles implies that Toodles was the one who drew it.
- Although Poppy and Boxten appear to be close friends, Qwel has stated they have no confirmed relations. They share many similarities, most stemming from both being starter Toons.
- Poppy and Boxten share 3 stars on all stats, identical to Rudie, Eggson, and Ribecca. Razzle and Dazzle also match if not considering their abilities.
- Both Poppy's and Boxten's Twisted counterparts are Common type, have average stats, and no special mechanics.
- Poppy and Boxten are the only non-Main and non-Lethal Toons to have official merchandise plushies.
- Their respective Trinkets, Pink Bow and Blue Bandana, are present in their models and have mechanics resembling their abilities.
- Poppy and Boxten share 4 Mastery quests in common. For their unique quests, Boxten needs to finish 20 more Machines than Poppy, while Poppy must activate her ability 30 times and Boxten must survive a Floor with all 8 players alive.
- Both their Christmas skins, Confident Caroler and Quiet Caroler, are meant to match as carolers.
- Poppy and Looey are confirmed friends. This is reflected in Poppy's Mastery being needed to unlock Looey, their similar passive abilities (both gain additional Movement Speed by taking damage), their material similarities (fragile balls), and their Trinkets' mechanic similarities.
- Poppy is the first Toon to activate an ability by taking damage, followed by Cosmo, Looey, and Yatta. Ginger was previously the fourth before her rework in the 2025 Christmas Event.
- Poppy is one of the first Common Toons that were not previously optimized to receive an optimized model, alongside Boxten and Cosmo. She is also the first female Toon to do so.
- Both Poppy and Boxten have 'Meet' teaser videos with morse code at the end, and when bought in Dandy's Store, Dandy says the same line for both of them.
