MECHANICS & BEHAVIOR

Special Mechanic

Twisted Dyle becomes faster the longer a player is in his line of sight, though anything that attracts Twisteds will immediately fill his meter up halfway. This is shown through a meter above him. He can instant kill anyone he attacks in one hit regardless of the current health status or Trinkets, just like any other Lethal.

APPEARANCE

Twisted Dyle is stripped of his Toon counterpart's clothing and features a much more muted color palette. His torso and legs have been replaced by an elongated, serpentine body ending in a forked tail tip. Everything below his forearms is submerged in Ichor, with his pocket watch chain now wrapped around his waist. Like Twisted Dandy, his claws are rainbow-colored, each one a different hue. The clock hands that once formed his mustache now spin continuously clockwise, and he sports a pair of snake-like fangs. Dyle wears a fatigued, stern expression and appears increasingly irritated when pursuing a Toon, his pupils constricting and sharp teeth fully bared.

DESCRIPTION

Twisted Dyle is a unique Twisted that appears exclusively on his dedicated Floor when the TIME'S UP Card is selected. Without player interaction, he moves very slowly and patrols like any standard Twisted.

Much like Twisted Glisten and Twisted Gourdy, Twisted Dyle has a visible meter above his head that can often be seen through walls and obstacles. This meter starts empty and directly controls his movement speed — the fuller it gets, the faster he becomes. The meter gradually fills while he is actively chasing a target; if he spots a Toon, he steadily accelerates until he either eliminates them or loses sight of them. Unlike Twisted Dandy, Twisted Dyle cannot detect completed Machines, but he can hear failed Skill Checks, Pebble's Active Ability, and Air Horns from anywhere on the Floor. When any of these occur, his meter instantly jumps to at least 50% and he rapidly accelerates toward the sound's origin. Once he reaches the source or loses his target, the meter slowly drains back to empty — unless he detects another sound or spots another Toon. Landing a successful attack immediately resets his meter to 0. He produces constant ticking sounds that grow faster as the meter rises. When the meter is nearly full and he is close by, a red tint gradually overtakes your screen. As a Lethal Twisted, he is unaffected by Smoke Bombs, Savory Charm (unless triggered by a non-Lethal Twisted hit), and Connie's Active Ability, similar to Twisted Dandy. However, Bobette's Active Ability is effective against both Lethal Twisteds.

HOW TO DEAL WITH TWISTED DYLE

Twisted Dyle is an exceptionally aggressive and hazardous Twisted, capable of reaching speeds that surpass any Toon and accelerating rapidly upon detecting a failed Skill Check from anywhere on the Floor.

When encountering Twisted Dyle (who appears exclusively on odd Floors, once per run, after selecting the TIME'S UP Card), it is advisable to bring Toons with strong Extraction Speed such as Shelly, Gourdy, Vee, and Yatta. Equipping Magnifying Glass and other Extraction or Skill Check Trinkets is beneficial, given there are 25 Machines on his Floor. Attempting to distract Twisted Dyle is NOT recommended — he accelerates the longer you remain in his line of sight and delivers an instant kill regardless of your remaining Hearts. His movement sounds are distinctive and highly audible, making him easy to track by ear. His extremely short attention span means that if spotted, sprinting to cover and breaking line of sight will cause him to lose interest quickly.

If you accidentally pick up an Air Horn, either save it for the Floor's Intermission or use it while already in Twisted Dyle's line of sight, then immediately break line of sight. This prevents him from charging to your position and gaining additional speed. Only attempt this near available cover.

During Blackout conditions with Twisted Dyle present, having Brightney or Vee on your team is highly valuable, as their Active Abilities highlight Twisteds. Note that only Common Twisteds can appear alongside Twisted Dyle, so more dangerous Twisted variants will not be present. Without Brightney or Vee, you can still identify Twisted Dyle in the dark through his visible rage bar.

Attempting to fully distract Dyle is nearly impossible without extensive preparation. Even Bassie with Bone and Feather Duster is limited by Bone's 40 Movement Speed cap. His extremely short attention span also prevents effective kiting around obstacles as you would with Twisted Pebble, since he drops aggro too easily while also possessing much higher speed. The best approach is to let him roam freely while distracting other Twisteds instead. Communicate his position to teammates so no one is caught off guard after a failed Skill Check. If you fail a Skill Check and hear him approaching, speed-boosting Items like Speed Candy, Box o' Chocolates, or Eject Button are essential for outrunning him.

Although you cannot occupy him permanently, you can exploit his low attention span by briefly entering and quickly leaving his line of sight, which bleeds off his accumulated speed. This technique is useful when a teammate misses a Skill Check or triggers an Air Horn. However, avoid this if your Toon has less than 3 Movement Speed or if Dyle's meter is already at 50% or higher without speed-enhancing gear, as the risk of death is substantial. Only attempt this with thorough familiarity of his behavior.

The only Toon capable of outrunning a fully charged Twisted Dyle is Looey at 1 Heart with Clown Horn and Pink Bow (41.38 run speed). Even so, the constant sprinting requirement makes sustained distraction impractical. The only viable distraction scenario involves stockpiling Boxes o' Chocolates placed around the distracting area by Bassie players, but eventually supplies run out and you must flee, especially as Panic Mode approaches. Some highly skilled players have managed this for an entire Floor. An alternative distraction method involves equipping Feather Duster or Bone with Glazed Fondant Bag while Cocoa places BonBons in a loop for the distractor to consume repeatedly.

Failed Skill Checks cause Twisted Dyle to charge directly toward the failed Machine via the shortest path. Position yourself behind obstacles along his likely route so he cannot see you during his approach. Detecting his exact path can be difficult, so exercise extra caution when he is nearby, especially with lower Movement Speed. Even after reaching the Machine, he continues moving at high speed in unpredictable directions due to his elevated meter, so using Mime Makeup or Thinking Cap to avoid failures is strongly recommended. Also stay clear of Ichor Leaks.

In desperate situations, taking a hit from another Twisted grants temporary invincibility frames, allowing you to use Items or Abilities to escape through Twisted Dyle's lethal range. This exploits the Twisteds' cooldown mechanic and should only be used when death seems unavoidable.

These Toons may have special advantages for encountering Twisted Dyle:

*Bassie: Her 4 Star Stealth, 5 Star Movement Speed, and 4 Star Stamina provide excellent survivability. Bone raises her top speed to 40, matching Twisted Dyle's maximum. Her 1 Star Skill Check can be offset with Mime Makeup or Thinking Cap. She can distribute Boxes o' Chocolates for Looey's distraction attempts and assist with Treadmill Machines, eliminating the need for Skill Check Trinkets. *Blot: His Active Ability can rescue himself or teammates from Twisted Dyle. When Dyle attacks the decoy, his meter resets to zero. Blot's 1 Star Skill Check is manageable with Mime Makeup or Thinking Cap, and he is immune to Illness, Slow Debuff, and Ichor Stains during Ichor Leaks. He also handles Treadmill Machines well. *Bobette: Her high Skill Check reduces failure risk, and maximum Stamina makes escaping easier. Her Passive Ability can boost nearby Toons' escape speed, while her Active Ability works even against Twisted Dyle, though the activation paralysis poses some risk. *Brightney: Her Ability and solid Extraction/Stamina Stats help manage Twisted Dyle, particularly during Blackouts. Her 1 Star Stealth can be strategically used to draw Dyle's attention away from teammates, and his low attention span means losing him is still feasible. *Brusha: She accelerates extraction for other Toons with her Skill Check-boosting ability, and her 4 Star Skill Check is respectable. Her low Stealth makes her a natural escort for less experienced players, drawing Twisted attention while reducing Skill Check failures nearby. *Cocoa: Her strong Movement Speed and Stealth facilitate safe navigation. Despite weaker extraction Stats, her BonBons provide +50% Extraction Speed (offsetting her weakness and accelerating Floor progress) and +25% Movement Speed (aiding escapes and Treadmill Machines). Stocking BonBons in your inventory adds extra escape insurance. *Eclipse: Her solid mobility and lower Stealth make her effective at redirecting Twisteds. Her Blackout buff significantly increases her speed (matching Looey at 1 Heart), brightness, and traversal ease. She has average extraction but excels at Treadmill Machines, especially during Blackouts. *Eggson: His Passive Ability accelerates Floor progression, with average extraction and mobility allowing decent pace and Machine completion. *Finn: His strong mobility (with Passive) and Extraction speed up Floor completion, though 2 Star Stamina can be problematic. Priming Machines gives teammates options to help in emergencies. *Flyte: His Ability helps himself and others escape Twisted Dyle, and his strong mobility makes him a solid pick. Note his Ability is somewhat weak and his 2 Star Skill Check may cause trouble. His high extraction is a bonus, and 4 Star Movement Speed assists with Treadmill Machines. *Flutter: Her Floaty Dash grants 67.5 Walk Speed, significantly outpacing Twisted Dyle even without sprinting. However, the dash lasts only three-quarters of a second with a long cooldown, her 2 Star Skill Check can cause issues, and her extraction Stats are poor overall — though her mobility helps with Treadmill Machines. Her Ichor Leak immunity reduces Skill Check failure risk and prevents movement slowdowns. *Gigi: Her 5 Star Skill Check minimizes failures. Lower Stamina makes survival harder, but her Surprise! Ability can instantly complete Valve Machines or produce Eject Buttons for quick escapes, despite its long cooldown and RNG dependence. The risk of receiving Air Horns can be mitigated by using them while already being chased by Twisted Dyle, then swapping for a preferred Item. *Glisten: His strong Extraction Speed and Ability aid survival, with the Ability best used to break away from Twisted Dyle before he accelerates. However, 2 Star Skill Check and Stealth can create problems. The Ability has a long cooldown and small targeting range, so do not over-rely on it. *Goob: His Active Ability can pull teammates out of danger or bring high-extraction Toons to unfinished Machines. His low Stealth is less concerning given Dyle's minimal attention span. With 4 Star Movement Speed and Stamina, he outruns all Common Twisteds and handles Treadmill Machines effectively despite low Extraction Speed. His 3 Star Skill Check reduces failure risk. *Gourdy: His exceptional Extraction Stats and solid mobility make him ideal. His Active Ability boosts survivability and extraction, while his Passive Ability simplifies Elevator returns. His 1 Star Stamina and Stealth require careful management, though the low Stealth can inadvertently help draw Twisteds away from teammates. *Looey: His strong mobility and Extraction make him one of the best Toons for Dyle's Floor. With Clown Horn and Pink Bow, he can outrun Dyle and help distract Common Twisteds. Full-time Dyle distraction is still impractical without extensive preparation. Even without distracting, his high Skill Check and Movement Speed serve him well across all Machine types. *Pebble: Despite his risky Active Ability and mediocre extraction, his Movement Speed and Stamina excel at Treadmill Machines and Common Twisted distraction. His Passive Ability helps locate useful Items. Absolutely avoid using his Active Ability, as it instantly fills Twisted Dyle's meter and endangers the entire team — Pebble cannot outrun a fully charged Dyle regardless of Trinket loadout. *Razzle & Dazzle: Since Dyle's Floor only appears on odd-numbered Floors, Razzle is always active, providing 5 Star Movement Speed and 1 Star Extraction Speed. Like Pebble, Razzle's high Movement Speed benefits Treadmill Machines and distraction. The extra Health provides a safety margin against Common Twisted hits. *Rodger: His Detective Passive Ability makes him valuable for completing Twisted Dyle Research and obtaining the Train Whistle Trinket. His 3 Star Skill Check and 4 Star Extraction Speed enable efficient Machine completion. His 2 Star Movement Speed is a liability, and his Passive offers no benefit once Dyle's Research is complete. *Rudie: A decent generalist who glows during Blackouts. His Active Ability provides a useful emergency escape against Twisted Dyle, though it is less effective than Flutter's Floaty Dash. Best used to cut behind walls or obstacles. *Shelly: Her Abilities enhance extraction efficiency and repositioning, speeding up Floor completion. Her high Skill Check virtually eliminates failures. When teammates use Vee's Remote, her Passive Ability grants high Movement Speed for Floor scouting. Multiple Shellies in a run significantly accelerate progress. The abundance of Machines makes her boost pairing more viable. Her 2 Star Stamina requires careful management. *Sprout: Despite low Extraction Speed and Skill Check, his Passive Ability reveals teammate locations and enables healing with Tapes. He is likely to accumulate Tapes quickly due to the 25 Machines on Dyle's Floor. His high Movement Speed and Stamina serve well for Treadmill Machines, though his 2 Star Skill Check demands caution. *Squirm: His extraction potential compensates for mediocre survivability. With his 100% Extraction Speed boost, Machines take roughly 15 seconds; without it, around 30 seconds. Use his Ability sparingly given the wind-up speed penalty and limited bookshelf availability. Manage Stamina carefully and monitor Stealth. *Tisha: Her Ability helps slower Toons escape chases. Her 4 Star Movement Speed and Skill Check ease Floor completion, though 2 Star Stamina and Extraction Speed are limiting factors. *Vee: Her ability to locate Machines and Twisteds simplifies route planning for tricky placements. Combined with solid Extraction and Blackout glow, she is a useful pick, though her poor mobility and survivability can be problematic. *Yatta: She offers strong mobility, Extraction, and an Ability that generates speed and extraction Items, making her excellent against Twisted Dyle. She can produce the Boxes o' Chocolates needed for Looey's temporary distraction. Her 1 Star Stamina and 2 Star Stealth present challenges similar to Gourdy's, but her slightly higher Stealth helps redirect Twisteds to lower-Stealth teammates.

The below Toons, however, may have disadvantages when encountering Twisted Dyle: *Boxten: While his extraction is decent, it depends heavily on teammate competence. Unreliable teammates mean quick deaths and no remaining bonuses to justify his selection. He can work with a capable team but is generally not recommended. *Connie: Her extremely poor mobility, 2 Star Skill Check, and largely ineffective Ability against Dyle make her a terrible choice. Her 5 Stealth, 4 Star Extraction Speed, Ichor Leak immunity, and Blackout glow do not compensate for her fundamental weaknesses. **Astro can serve as a reasonable alternative for players wanting high Stealth on Dyle's Floor. He has average mobility, Blackout glow, a supportive Active Ability, and fast Stamina regeneration through his Passive. Like Connie, his 2 Star Skill Check requires experience to manage. *Ginger: Her below-average mobility and middling extraction make her less valuable, with the mobility issues making Twisted Dyle escapes difficult. Her 4 Star Stealth has limited utility in solo or small runs, and her healing Ability is hard to leverage given Dyle's instant kills and the map's large size. *Low Skill Check Toons like Cosmo without Mime Makeup or Thinking Cap struggle with Skill Checks, particularly on Circle Machines, and Twisted Dyle's pressure compounds the difficulty. They can focus on Treadmill Machines to minimize risk. All 1 Star Skill Check Toons except Shrimpo provide some form of support — Bassie distributes Items, Cosmo heals teammates, and Blot deploys Blot Jr. as a diversion. *Poppy: Her well-rounded but unexceptional Stats yield mediocre extraction. Her Ability provides little value against Dyle's instant kill and minimal advantage against easily escapable Common Twisteds. Even with her Ability active, her 37.5 run speed cannot outpace him. *Ribecca: Her Passive Ability, The Undead, grants Debuff immunity, but no Debuff-causing Twisteds can spawn on Dyle's Floor — only Common Twisteds and Dyle himself. Her immunity helps during Ichor Leaks but this is entirely chance-dependent. The other Common Event Toons' Abilities (Rudie's Antler Charge and Eggson's Fixer Upper) offer more consistent value. *Scraps: Her below-average Skill Check and speed are dangerous against Twisted Dyle. Her situational Ability can occasionally save her, and her high Stamina partially offsets her mobility issues. The abundant Machines on the Floor do give her Ability more grapple targets. *Shrimpo: His poor baseline Stats make him a struggle on normal Floors, let alone against Twisted Dyle. His bad Skill Check endangers teammates when Dyle charges toward failed Machines. His Stealth can lure Twisteds, but escaping without damage or Items is unlikely given his terrible mobility. Equipping Mime Makeup and Vanity Mirror helps with Skill Checks and escape. Surviving Dyle's Floor as Shrimpo earns the Hissy Fit Achievement. **Soulvester: Despite his outstanding extraction, his poor mobility severely limits its effectiveness. The Common Twisteds become a significant nuisance, and his Ability is negated by Dyle's instant kill. Only recommended for extremely experienced and cautious players. *Toodles: Her 4 Star Stealth is insufficient justification, especially outside multiplayer where Toons can generally break line of sight quickly. Her low Extraction Speed, marginal Ability buffs (each being a 20% chance among 5 options), and generally poor value make her suboptimal even with good Skill Check Trinket combinations.

TRIVIA
  • Twisted Dyle and Twisted Dandy share numerous parallels, likely stemming from their shared Lethal classification.
  • Both can instantly eliminate any Toon they attack.
  • Game files indicate they deal 99 damage to Toons.
  • Before Twisted Dyle was introduced, Twisted Dandy only dealt 3 Hearts of damage.
  • This adjustment was likely influenced by Soulvester's addition, who possesses 4 Hearts via his Knightly Armor Passive Ability.
  • The 99-damage figure may mirror their Toon counterparts' 99 Hearts of Health.
  • Invincibility frames from non-Lethal Twisted hits or Savory Charm will block their attacks.
  • Neither of their Toon counterparts are publicly accessible.
  • Both of their Research entries describe lore rather than mechanics.
  • Both have their lower bodies fully engulfed in Ichor and resemble animals — Dyle takes a serpentine form, while Dandy resembles a horse-cat hybrid with an arched back.
  • Both crawl, though Dandy's movement is closer to quadrupedal locomotion.
  • Both have unique spawn conditions — Twisted Dyle appears when the TIME'S UP Card is chosen, and Twisted Dandy can spawn after three consecutive shop skips.
  • Twisted Dyle is the first and only Twisted whose spawn is exclusively triggered by a Card.
  • Both possess rainbow-colored claws.
  • Both can detect Toons using Smoke Bomb or Connie's Haunting Escape, but cannot see Bobette with Precious Packaging active.
  • At Twisted Dyle's minimum speed, both share identical movement values.
  • Both can hear failed Skill Checks from anywhere on the Floor.
  • Twisted Dyle's serpentine design and sound effects likely reference Dyle's known dislike of snakes, as mentioned in his gossip about Teagan.
  • The hissing sounds may also nod to his train-related occupation, evoking a steam engine rather than purely a snake.
  • Twisted Dyle's render originally featured an expression not seen in gameplay, appearing to be a composite of his default, blinking, and attack textures. In v0.12.1, this expression became his default face in Roleplay Mode, though it still does not appear in the base game.
  • Twisted Dyle is currently the first and only Twisted that can spawn only once during a run.
  • He has the second-highest number of sound effects among all Twisteds at 14, behind only Twisted Gourdy with 25. He holds the record among base game Twisteds.
  • Twisted Dyle is the longest Twisted in the game, surpassing Twisted Dandy.
  • At his maximum chase speed of 40, Twisted Dyle is the fastest Twisted in the game, exceeding Twisted Gourdy's Panic Mode speed of 32.5. During a Spring Fever on his Floor in Panic Mode, he can reach a speed of 72.
  • Originally, Twisted Dyle had no speed cap, which led to nerfs during development. According to Qwel, he became so fast he flew off the map.
  • Dyle's max speed was initially 35, but was raised to 40 after players used macros and autoclickers with Bassie to trivialize his Floor. Bone was capped at 40 Run Speed simultaneously to make him effectively "undistractible" while still allowing escape.
  • The reason Bone was not capped at 35 is unclear, though 35 Run Speed provides only 5 extra units over a 5 Star Movement Speed Toon's sprint, making it far too weak to be practical.
  • A red vignette effect appears on screen when Twisted Dyle is at full speed and nearby, similar to the Panic Mode visual.
  • Twisted Dyle shares a very similar attack animation with Twisted Bobette.
  • His speed and length may reference his train-themed occupation.
  • Twisted Dyle is the only Twisted whose blinking expression involves changes beyond just closed eyes (excluding Roleplay Mode, where his default expression was changed).
  • Twisted Vee also shows additional changes when blinking, but as corrupted technology, her blink does not feature closed eyes and is not a true blink animation.
  • Twisted Dyle is the second Twisted with a bar above his head, following Twisted Glisten and preceding Twisted Gourdy.
  • His bar is the only one that increases in a specific situation (having a Toon in line of sight or hearing a failed Skill Check), rather than decreasing. He is also the only one without a passive state, as his bar functions differently from the others.
  • Twisted Dyle's chase theme was composed by BSlick, who also created "Downtime with Dyle" and "Dance of the Bauble."
  • Twisted Dyle has the second-lowest attention span at 1 second, tied with Twisted Toodles, with only Twisted Cocoa lower at 0.80 seconds. This is likely due to the high speeds they can achieve and contributes to Dyle being effectively "undistractible."
  • His maximum speed multiplier is 2.5x.
  • Once his bar is fully charged and he reaches maximum speed, it takes approximately 41 seconds for the bar to fully deplete.
  • Twisted Dyle is the third Twisted guaranteed to spawn on specific Floors (all odd-numbered Floors from 9 to 43, or 45 during Events), with Twisted Bobette, Twisted Bassie, and Twisted Gourdy spawning on Floors that are multiples of 20.
  • In Roleplay Mode, players morphed as Twisted Dyle produce a subtle hissing ambience emanating from the chest area. It is very quiet and requires careful listening.
  • Twisted Dyle is the fourth Twisted to display anger in his attack face, following Twisted Connie and Twisted Looey, Twisted Eggson and Twisted Flyte, Twisted Vee, and preceding Twisted Shrimpo, Twisted Eclipse, Twisted Ribecca and Twisted Soulvester, and Twisted Teagan.
  • Twisted Dyle is the second Twisted to hear failed Skill Checks from anywhere on the Floor, with Twisted Astro, Twisted Dandy, and Twisted Vee being the first, and Twisted Gourdy the third.
  • His model contains a large number of bones/rigs, primarily due to his tail and chain.
  • Prior to v0.12, his hitbox did not affect players on Machines, which made him distractible.
  • Twisted Dyle is currently the only individual Twisted with dedicated Achievements tied to him.
  • It is nearly impossible to spawn Twisted Dandy on Dyle's Floor, as only Common Twisteds appear alongside him, even though Twisted Dandy can technically spawn on odd-numbered Floors.
