Soulvester

ABOUT SOULVESTER

Appearance

Soulvester is a pale green ghost inhabiting a suit of armor. A large gray helmet covers most of his face, featuring a visor and a teal gem set at its base. His hair emerges through the top of the helmet, tied back in a ponytail. The rest of his armor includes a breastplate, gauntlets, greaves, and sabatons, all rendered in gray. Black cloth fills the gaps between armor pieces, covering the exposed portions of his torso and legs. What he looks like beneath the armor remains a mystery.

Personality

Soulvester embodies the spirit of a true knight, speaking in archaic English and displaying a consistently heroic demeanor. He dismisses any claims that he is not a genuine knight and takes offense when others describe his behavior as dorky. He is frequently seen offering assistance to fellow Toons, whether through protection, gathering supplies, or dispensing advice, yet he is notably quick to decline help when it is offered to him, likely as an extension of his self-imposed chivalric code.

He becomes noticeably defensive when anyone suggests he remove his armor, even briefly, and feels compelled to justify himself whenever his traits are framed in an unflattering light. This behavior may stem from deep-seated insecurities, as his introduction card itself questions his true strength.

Unlike the bonds between other related Toons, Soulvester's relationship with his twin sister Connie is comparatively strained. He seems to prefer seeing less of her, though beneath the surface, the ghostly siblings do genuinely care for one another, even if they rarely show it.

In essence, while Soulvester projects toughness and chivalry befitting a real knight, his persona may largely be a means of proving himself to others. He desperately wants to be perceived as the heroic figure he aspires to be, all while concealing his vulnerabilities.

STRATEGIES
Soulvester ranks among the best extractors in the game (tied with Gourdy), boasting 5 stars in both Skill Check and Extraction Speed, plus an additional Heart for survivability. The trade-off, however, is severely limited mobility, with 1 star in both Movement Speed and Stamina, matching Shrimpo's mobility stats. Reckless play carries far greater risk than usual, making caution and patience fundamental to performing well with Soulvester. He works best on teams that include a distractor. This setup lets him leverage his outstanding extraction stats while staying out of harm's way, though his survival depends heavily on the distractor staying alive. His extra Heart provides a valuable safety buffer and makes Health Kits more worthwhile, but faster Twisteds like Twisted Shelly and Twisted Toodles still demand careful awareness. Checking corners and positioning the camera to spot approaching Twisteds while working on Machines is a strong habit to develop. As noted in his Ability description, Soulvester is immune to the ranged attacks of Twisted Goob and Twisted Scraps. This functions essentially as a permanent Cardboard 'Armor' effect. It significantly reduces the threat these Twisteds pose, especially Scraps, who lacks Goob's extended attention span. Be aware, however, that this immunity does not extend to Twisted Gigi's grab attacks, so stay vigilant to protect your Items. Like his sister Connie, Soulvester gains additional advantages during Floor Events. He produces light during Blackouts and is immune to the Illness III, Slow I, and Ichor Stains inflicted by Ichor Leaks. This makes him a strong choice when Floor Events are giving your team trouble. Players already experienced with Connie's similarly poor Movement Speed may find transitioning to Soulvester relatively smooth, since the movement limitations are familiar. Soulvester offers bonuses that Connie does not, including maximum extraction capability, an extra Heart, and ranged attack immunity. However, he sacrifices considerable survivability compared to Connie, having 2 fewer stars in both Stamina and Stealth and no invisibility Ability, so remain mindful of these limitations. His low mobility makes spawning Twisted Dyle a risky proposition. Managing Twisted Dyle alongside the Common Twisteds that accompany him is extremely challenging with Soulvester's poor speed. The extra Heart offers no protection against Twisted Dyle's instant-kill attacks, and his ranged attack immunity is irrelevant since all ranged Twisteds are Rare tier. That said, his maximum extraction can accelerate the Floor's completion, making him a potential asset if he focuses on nearby Machines while faster or stealthier teammates spread out. Completing Dyle's Floor rewards much-needed Stamina. Overall, Soulvester is a solid Toon choice, though reaching higher Floors consistently requires significant support from teammates. If raw extraction power is your primary goal, Gourdy may be the more practical pick.
TRIVIA
  • Soulvester and Connie being twin siblings makes them the fifth pair of Toons with a confirmed biological relationship.
  • He is also immune to ranged attacks, though this was not explicitly stated in his Ability description until v0.13.9.
  • This immunity does not apply to Twisted Gigi's ranged grab Ability.
  • Counting his immunity to Ichor Leaks, ranged attacks, and partial immunity to Blackouts, Soulvester technically holds the most immunities of any Toon in the game.
  • He has longer hair than his sister Connie, giving him the longest hair among all Toons.
  • Soulvester is the first non-Main Holiday Toon to achieve 5 stars in two Stats, those being Extraction Speed and Skill Check. He shares these stats with Gourdy.
  • He and Gourdy are also the only Toons with 1 star in two separate Stats.
  • He is the first non-Main Character Event Toon to have 1 star on any Stat.
  • This also makes him the seventh non-Main Character Toon to reach 5 stars in a stat, joining Scraps, Glisten, Gigi, Connie, Yatta, Squirm, and Blot.
  • He is the first Holiday Toon and first playable Toon overall to have 4 Health.
  • Soulvester is the second Toon to wear footwear by default (after Dyle), the second to wear gloves by default (after Blot), and the third to wear a head accessory by default (after Connie and Astro).
  • His name is a portmanteau of 'Soul' and the name 'Sylvester.'
  • In a conversation with Connie, she mentions he is 'larping as a knight,' implying he may not be a real one. Despite this, he appears to firmly believe otherwise, given his protective nature and commitment to wearing armor.
  • His sluggish Movement Speed and low Stamina may be attributed to the weight of his heavy armor. His low Movement Speed could also mirror his sister Connie's speed.
  • In an interaction with Ribecca, Soulvester refuses to remove his armor even momentarily, suggesting the armor is removable and was likely found rather than inherent to him.
  • His immunity to ranged attacks likely references his armor's durability, which presumably exceeds that of the Cardboard 'Armor' Trinket.
  • Soulvester is the second Holiday Toon to appear in a thumbnail without fleeing from a Twisted. Instead, he is depicted giving Twisted Gourdy a Stealth Candy. The first was Gourdy, shown playing with Toodles.
  • At launch, his Ability description simply read 'You get an extra heart!' This was later updated to 'This Toon gets an extra heart and is immune to damage from ranged attacks.'
  • This effectively gives Soulvester two Passives bundled as a single Ability, similar to how Astro's Well Rested Passive grants both extra Stamina regeneration and the ability to see Toons below half Stamina.
  • The ranged immunity addition may have occurred because having only an extra Heart would have left him functionally without a meaningful gameplay Ability.
  • The description change may have been prompted by players mistakenly reporting his ranged immunity as a bug, since it was not originally documented.
  • He was the first Toon whose Ability description addressed the player directly with 'You get an extra heart!'
  • That original description was also the second shortest Ability description in the game at 23 characters.
