Gourdy

ABOUT GOURDY

Appearance

Gourdy is a juvenile, anthropomorphic pumpkin character. His head is topped with a stem and leaf, separated from the rest by a visible seam. He wears a fanged smile, and his eyes feature black sclera with white pupils, evoking the look of a carved jack-o'-lantern. His hands are large paw-like appendages, each bearing four claws, and he has a long, slender tail (curled in his in-game model) tipped with a leaf. His head, torso, and hands are orange, while his arms, legs, claws, and tail are green. The green on his legs gradually darkens toward the bottom, matching his tail, and features six thin stripes of lighter green that resemble pumpkin vine patterns.

Personality

Gourdy is an enthusiastic and friendly Toon with an intense passion for Halloween. Beneath his cheerful exterior, however, he harbors significant insecurity, particularly around his missing parents. Evidence of this can be seen in the drawings decorating his bedroom, his Memory Locket Trinket, and his Gossip dialogues.

He clearly looks up to the Main Character Toons, perhaps even viewing them as superior to himself. This admiration surfaces in his conversations with Vee and in his gossip about Shelly. His room is decorated with plush toys of all the Main Characters, further underscoring this hero worship. Gourdy is notably polite and well-mannered, frequently addressing other Toons with formal titles like Mr. or Ms. and referring to the Mains by their last names unless told otherwise. That said, his feelings toward Shelly seem somewhat more complicated compared to his admiration for the other Mains.

In one of his gossip dialogues regarding Toodles, Gourdy appears to mask his genuine distress. He clearly values his friendship with Toodles deeply, likely because they are both children and share a natural connection. Although he mentions not seeing her often and tries to remain upbeat about it, there is an unmistakable undercurrent of anxiety about potentially losing her.

STRATEGIES
Boasting maximum extraction capability with 5 stars in both Skill Check and Extraction Speed (tied with Soulvester), along with 4-star Movement Speed and 1-star Stealth, Gourdy fits virtually any role as an exceptionally versatile all-rounder. His only real drawbacks are 1-star Stamina (and 1-star Stealth if playing as an extractor, since you might inadvertently steal aggro from your distractor), though these can be addressed with a Cooler or sound stamina management, particularly if you have experience with similarly statted Toons. The low Stealth can also become irrelevant with proper Twisted management. Gourdy's active ability, Trick or Treat, works similarly to Toodles' ability but is slightly more powerful (+5% extra) and applies its boost to nearby teammates within a small radius rather than to himself, at the cost of an additional 10-second cooldown. Unlike most random-effect abilities, the result is displayed (at least on the target's screen), helping you decide how to capitalize on the buff. The randomness means you should not rely entirely on it for critical situations, but it remains a valuable tool when you get a favorable roll. Note that the radius is quite tight, requiring you to be nearly touching your target. His 1-star Stealth can actually work in your favor here, as approaching a chased teammate may pull aggro off them. Avoid boosting distractors unless absolutely necessary (such as during Panic Mode), as you risk accidentally stealing aggro -- unless the distractor is playing Pebble with Speak! active, uses an Air Horn, or is another 1-star Stealth Toon. You can try using the ability through a wall near the distractor, but given the random nature of the boost, it is generally not worthwhile unless they are struggling. Before the Elevator opens, ask teammates to cluster around you so you can boost multiple players simultaneously. Try activating Trick or Treat on extracting Toons as you pass them -- your 1-star Stealth makes this feasible even while distracting, provided you understand line of sight mechanics. You can also ask teammates to approach you while you are extracting so you can buff them. His passive ability, Sugar Rush, grants all players (including Gourdy) a +20% Movement Speed boost for 5 seconds at the start of each Floor and when Panic Mode activates. This functions like a global Pull Toy and Alarm combination. It is especially beneficial for slower Toons who struggle to reach the elevator, as the +20% bonus is quite substantial. It also helps your team's distractor locate Twisteds faster at Floor start, conserves Stamina during Panic Mode, and speeds up reaching Machines. It offers some utility against Twisted Finn and can ease Elevator approaches. Gourdy also excels at distraction. His 1-star Stealth allows him to passively draw aggro from nearly any Toon (except Brightney, who may require closer proximity, and Shrimpo), which is tremendously helpful. Unlike Brightney, his 4-star Movement Speed gives him a more agile distraction style, though his significantly lower Stamina means you should sprint only when necessary. Given his exceptional overall potential, there is no single recommended playstyle for Gourdy. His relatively accessible unlock requirements compared to other Mains make him an excellent pick for experienced players comfortable with Main Characters. There is essentially no wrong way to play him, since his three weaknesses (Stealth, Health, and Stamina) can largely be compensated through smart play. Feel free to experiment with different Trinket setups without worrying too much about gameplay penalties for leaning into a specific role. Yatta has a comparable playstyle with slightly higher Stealth and lower Skill Check. She can serve as a solid alternative to Gourdy, particularly since he is exclusive to the Halloween Event and has steeper requirements. Yatta leans more toward personal survivability with her higher Health reducing hit danger and her ability being self-applicable, whereas Gourdy's active ability benefits only teammates. Her passive is also considerably more potent and usable at any time without needing proximity, though it consumes inventory space. Meanwhile, Gourdy's active can buff multiple Toons with longer duration boosts, albeit randomly. Yatta's 2-star Stealth also lets her hand off Twisteds to 2-star Stealth distractors, while Gourdy must rely on walls, Shrimpo, Blot Jr., a nearby Brightney/Gourdy, or an Air Horn. Both Toons are extremely powerful; Yatta edges ahead for solo runs and personal survival, while Gourdy shines in team settings with superior extracting, distracting, and support capabilities. That said, Gourdy can still perform well solo with self-sufficient Trinkets like Peppermint Icing and Ghost Snakes In A Can. Gourdy players can adopt many of Brightney's tactics: *Position outside the Elevator during Panic Mode to draw Twisted pressure away from teammates *Steal aggro from others and quickly shed it to assist them *If Twisteds scatter in multiple directions, gather them and pass them to your distractor *Exercise caution when the Elevator opens -- expect Twisteds to converge on you and be ready to protect overeager teammates *Step in for distractors during Panic Mode to give them relief
TRIVIA
  • Gourdy and Soulvester are the only Toons who permanently hold 5 stars in two different Stats.
  • This gives the pair the highest extractability of any Toons in the game.
  • They are also the only Toons with 1 star in two separate Stats.
  • Bobette previously had 5 stars in two Stats as well, but one of them was later reduced.
  • Gourdy's surname is Holloway, as confirmed through various in-game dialogue lines.
  • The name Holloway is a blend of the words Holiday and Halloween.
  • It also bears a resemblance to the real-world surname "Halloway."
  • His last name appears in one of the Show's episode titles, called "Holloway Haunting."
  • He is the first Event Main Toon to have his surname revealed immediately upon release.
  • His last name was established through his dialogues and the "Holloway Haunting" poster, whereas Bobette and Bassie's surnames were disclosed during Qwel's livestreams.
  • Gourdy is the second child Toon in the game, following Toodles.
  • He and Toodles are also friends, which is natural given that they are both children who would likely share similar interests and experiences.
  • He is also the first Main Character Toon to be a child.
  • Gourdy is the second Toon to have non-standard eye coloring (lacking white sclerae and black pupils), with Vee being the first.
  • He is the only Toon whose eyes appear inset, creating the illusion that he is looking at the viewer from multiple angles.
  • This visual effect may have drawn inspiration from Dandy's pre-release design.
  • Among Event Main Characters, Gourdy is the only one whose Mastery does not require reaching Floor 20.
  • He is the third Main Character Toon to have at least one stat at 1 star, following Pebble (1-star Extraction Speed) and Bassie (1-star Skill Check).
  • Gourdy is one of three Toons who lack a 3-star stat entirely, alongside Bassie and Shrimpo.
  • Bobette also previously lacked a 3-star stat, but her 2-star Movement Speed was later raised to 3.
  • Vee similarly had no 3-star stat until her Stamina was increased to 3.
  • He is the third Holiday Main Character to be released, after Bobette and Bassie.
  • He is also the first and only male Holiday Main Character.
  • Furthermore, he is the first Holiday Main to have Gossip dialogues.
  • Gourdy is currently the sole Holiday Main Character without 2-star Extraction Speed.
  • He shares the same ability activation sound as Bassie.
  • Gourdy, along with Shrimpo, Soulvester, and Boxten, has concept art hidden within Halloween Event Skin texture sheets. Fresh Fall Gourdy's concept art also appears in Boxten's texture sheet.
  • Fresh Fall is the only Skin that was unintentionally leaked before its official release. Infected Candy Yatta was also technically leaked, though that design was created by a developer before they joined the team.
  • He is the third Toon to have visible fingers, after Goob and Scraps.
  • His hands are notably similar in design to Goob's.
  • Gourdy is the first Toon to receive an official song, a collaboration with YouTuber CG5 titled "Locked Away."
  • He is the first Toon to have confirmed biological parents, currently known as Mr. and Mrs. Holloway.
  • He inherits a blend of physical traits from both parents:
  • Mr. Holloway's paws, leaf tail, and the light green claws and arm.
  • Mrs. Holloway's head shape, leaf shape, number of stem leaves, and the dark green feet and stem leaf.
  • A lighter shade of orange blending both Mr. and Mrs. Holloway's body colors.
  • A light-to-dark green gradient on his stem leaves and legs, combining both parents' coloring.
  • The concept of a pumpkin Main Character may have been repurposed from a scrapped 2024 Halloween Event Toon named Harvey, who may also have been pumpkin-themed.
  • Gourdy is the first Holiday Toon shown not fleeing from a Twisted in the game's thumbnails, instead appearing to play with Toodles. Soulvester followed this pattern, appearing to give Twisted Gourdy a Stealth Candy.
  • His name is derived from the word "gourd," referring to a hard-shelled fruit of the Cucurbitaceae family, which includes pumpkins.
  • While his legs are designed to resemble pumpkin vines, they could also be interpreted as looking like small cucumbers or other green members of the gourd family, strengthening his thematic connection to gourds in general.
  • He is the second Toon to receive official merchandise in plush form, following Dandy.
  • He is also the first Holiday Toon to have a plush.
  • When playing as Gourdy, entering the secret bedroom and remaining there for several seconds triggers a unique dialogue line ("I shouldn't stay here much longer"), making him the second playable Toon with dialogue outside of ability use or Elevator interactions, after Vee.
  • He is the first to actually speak in this context, since Vee's equivalent dialogue consists only of an ellipsis ("...").
  • Gourdy appears to enjoy drawing, as evidenced by Ribecca's dialogue, his gossip about Brusha, and scenes from the "Locked Away" music video.
  • He is the second Toon to be teased within the game prior to release, referenced in Dyle's gossip about Toodles. Blot was the first Toon teased this way.
  • Yatta could also be considered a teased Toon, having been subtly hinted at through one of Looey's dialogues with Teagan.
  • He is the first Holiday Toon and Main Character to be teased through in-game dialogue before release.
  • A common misconception is that Gourdy has no dialogue sound. In reality, his dialogue sound simply plays at a very low volume.
  • Gourdy is one of five Toons with a limp tail, joining Vee, Scraps, Connie (debatable), and Yatta.
  • His Lost Prince Skin features a subtly different idle fidget animation compared to his other Skins. Normally his head tilts toward whichever hand rises, but in the Lost Prince Skin, his head movement aligns differently with his hand motions.
  • It is common practice for Skins to have slightly modified animations to prevent clipping with added cosmetic elements (for example, Fairy Godmother Shrimpo has wider arm spacing to avoid clipping with the dress), though whether this applies to the Lost Prince Skin is unclear.
  • Interestingly, Gourdy becomes progressively paler with each successive Skin release (excluding Vintage). Midnight Sleeper shows a slight paleness, Crinkling Leaves makes it more noticeable, Lost Prince gives him a distinctly pale-yellowish tone, and Fresh Fall presents a lime-like hue.
  • Gourdy, Eclipse, and Soulvester are the first Holiday Toons to have more than one Holiday Skin, with 4, 3, and 2 respectively.
  • He previously held the record for most Holiday Skins at 4, before being surpassed by Ginger and Bobette at 6 each.
  • He still retains the most Skins of any Toon within the Halloween Event specifically.
  • This distinction likely stems from his status as the Halloween Event's Main Character.
  • Some of Gourdy's Skins may reference Mr. or Mrs. Holloway, with certain colors and features resembling or alluding to his parents.
  • In his Midnight Sleeper Skin, Gourdy is a paler version of his default color, closer to Mrs. Holloway's shade while retaining Mr. Holloway's vibrant orange undertone. He also has additional leaves like Mr. Holloway (two on the stem), but they match Mrs. Holloway's darker green color and shape.
  • His Crinkling Leaves Skin gives him the appearance of a dried-out pumpkin, with coloring resembling Mrs. Holloway and leaves reminiscent of Mr. Holloway.
  • The Fresh Fall Skin, while possibly coincidental, makes him look like an unripe pumpkin, reflecting his role as Mr. and Mrs. Holloway's offspring.
  • He is the fourth Toon whose normal and Twisted counterparts have appeared in separate game thumbnails.
  • According to his gossip about Eclipse, Gourdy has a small flame inside his head.
  • Despite this, he does not provide illumination during Blackouts, as the flame is too small to emit useful light.
  • Gourdy's Trick or Treat ability does not grant a Stealth boost, possibly because Stealth changes could be counterproductive for certain Toons.
  • Similar to Astro, the visual aura produced when Gourdy uses his active ability is rendered as a 3D model.
  • He holds the shortest ability cooldown among Main Characters at 35 seconds.
