Description

When a Blackout is active, all environmental lights on the current Floor are disabled, including miscellaneous light sources such as projectors. Blackouts cannot occur before Floor 3. Upon passing Floor 3, the chance of a Blackout occurring starts at 5%, and increases by 2% after every completed Floor, capping at 30%.

All Toons have a default light radius of 25. Light-producing Toons have larger radii and can help teammates navigate during Blackouts. The Sparkplug Card increases the light radius for all Toons during a Blackout, though the increased radius is very slight (2.5% to 3% maximum).

Strategies

Several strategies improve survival during Blackouts.

Equip the Spare Bulb Trinket: This drastically increases the light radius of the Toon, and also increases the radius of light-producing Toons. It can be used to guide teammates throughout Blackouts more easily.

Equip the Party Popper Trinket: This highlights all nearby Twisteds when first extracting a Machine. Compared to Spare Bulb, this Trinket is much better for extractors, Toons who do not produce light, and self-survival.

Play as a light-producing Toon: Light-producing Toons have a larger radius of light, which makes Blackouts easier to deal with for themselves and teammates. Equipping their Vintage Skin (which produces white light) may make it easier to see.

Reduce graphics quality to 1-3: This causes the light radius to be slightly larger than usual, along with heavily reducing shadows and reflections that inhibit vision.

Use transparent materials to your advantage: Transparent materials allow you to see farther than usual in a Blackout. This includes Rodger's lens, Gigi's cap, Connie when using her ability, and windows.

Have Vee or Brightney locate Twisteds: Vee's Mic Check highlights all Twisteds and Machines. Brightney's Night Light is exclusive to Blackouts but highlights Twisteds for 8 seconds.

Conserve stamina: As you do not know the location of Twisteds, try to keep at least 50-70 units of stamina in case you aggro multiple Twisteds when running from one.

Light-Producing Toons

Toons with a lightbulb icon next to their Abilities in the selection screen produce more light than other Toons during Blackouts.

Toon Default Light Color Light Radius
Astro Blue 33
Brightney White 50
Connie Cyan 33
Eclipse Blue 50
Rudie Red 30
Soulvester Cyan 33
Vee Green 30

Associated Toons

Two Toons directly interact with Blackouts.

Brightney can highlight all Twisteds during a Blackout using her Night Light Active Ability.

Eclipse gains 2 Stamina Stars (a 60% multiplier) during Blackouts, and her base Movement Speed is buffed to 21 Walk Speed and 33 Run Speed. The Stamina gain is percentage-based, meaning Stamina Cards or Trinkets will increase the bonus further.

Associated Twisteds

Three Twisteds directly interact with Blackouts.

Twisted Brightney can reroll the chance of a Blackout if it fails to occur on the Floor she's on, increasing the likelihood of a Blackout occurring. There will be flickering noises on the lights for approximately 2 to 3 seconds before the lights cut off, providing a warning that Twisted Brightney is present.

Twisted Coal's stats drastically change during a Blackout throughout the Floor. Her speed changes from 16 to 25 (matching Twisted Bobette), and her detection range increases. Her attention span is reduced from 5 seconds to 3 seconds, making her easier to lose.

Twisted Squirm's eyes glow throughout the Floor during a Blackout, making him easier to spot if he spawns.

Trivia

The Blackout is the first ever Floor Event in Dandy's World and was the only Floor Event that could occur until Ichor Leaks were added in v0.11.1.

As of v0.13.13, there are 7 Toons that glow during Blackouts. Vee and Rudie have the smallest light radius. Rudie is the only Toon to have a light radius that isn't a point light, instead acting more like a spotlight.

One of the sounds that plays when a Blackout starts originates from FNAF.

Blackouts are the only Floor Event to have no indication of their appearance before the Elevator opens, have no effect on Movement Speed, have a Toon specifically made to counter them (Brightney), and have a Twisted, Trinket, and Abilities with mechanics tied to them.

FAQ

What is the maximum chance of a Blackout occurring in Dandy's World?

The maximum Blackout chance is 30%. It starts at 5% on Floor 3 and increases by 2% per completed Floor. The Electrician Card reduces the maximum to 25% and the per-floor increase to 1.5%.

Which Toons are best for surviving Blackouts?

Light-producing Toons (Brightney, Eclipse, Astro, Connie, Vee, Soulvester, Rudie) have larger light radii. Brightney can highlight Twisteds. Eclipse gains a speed and stamina boost during Blackouts. Equipping the Spare Bulb or Party Popper Trinket also helps significantly.
