Strategy
Alarm is heavily outclassed by Vanity Mirror and possibly even Speed Candy. Alarm should really only be used if Vanity Mirror has yet to be obtained, or possibly in combination with Vanity Mirror. Considering the price and that it only lasts for 1/3 of Panic Mode at most, there is little reason to use it. However, Alarm provides a Walk Speed boost (unlike Vanity Mirror), so it could be used to counter the Twisteds' Panic Mode boost if the player easily drains their Stamina.
While better options exist, Alarm has some unique upsides for niche scenarios. The speed boost is not conditional on having stamina, so it will always kick in immediately. This is useful if lagging, close to Twisteds (for example, distracting Twisted Toodles as Goob), or often low on Stamina to make use of Vanity Mirror. It provides a more reliable kick if caught off-guard by Panic Mode. The walk-speed boost is particularly significant, allowing the player to regain stamina during its active duration while still covering useful ground.
This Trinket should be avoided during solo and duo runs unless playing a short-ranged support, as the practice of priming Machines heavily reduces the need for it.
As an alternative to this Trinket, players can invite a Gourdy to their team, as his Passive Ability, Sugar Rush, gives a similar yet shorter and weaker effect on all Toons, with the bonus of also activating at the start of a Floor. Alternatively, Finn or Shelly provide 33% and 25% Movement Speed boosts respectively when any Machine is completed.
Trivia
Alarm was the first ever Trinket to activate in Panic Mode, the second being Vanity Mirror.
Alarm functions very similarly to Vanity Mirror. The differences are that Alarm grants -5% Run Speed in comparison, only lasts for a certain duration of Panic Mode, but grants Walk Speed as well.
Gourdy's Passive Ability, Sugar Rush, is also very similar to the Alarm Trinket. His Passive Ability, however, has a -5% Speed Boost and lasts for only 5 seconds.
The total Movement Speed gained from this Trinket scales with the Toon's star rating: - 1 star (10 Walk/20 Run) → (12.50 Walk/25 Run) - 2 stars (12.50 Walk/22.50 Run) → (15.625 Walk/28.125 Run) - 3 stars (15 Walk/25 Run) → (18.75 Walk/31.25 Run) - 4 stars (17.50 Walk/27.50 Run) → (21.875 Walk/34.375 Run) - 5 stars (20 Walk/30 Run) → (25 Walk/37.50 Run)
FAQ
How do you unlock the Alarm trinket in Dandy's World?
Alarm can be purchased from Dandy's Store in the Lobby for 1000 Ichor. Players must first survive 50 Floors to meet the unlock requirement.
How does the Alarm trinket compare to Vanity Mirror?
Both activate during Panic Mode and boost Run Speed, but Alarm also boosts Walk Speed and lasts only 10 seconds (about 1/3 of Panic Mode). Vanity Mirror provides more Run Speed and lasts longer, making it generally the better choice. Alarm's walk speed boost is its key advantage over Vanity Mirror.
