Strategy

Cocoa is best understood as a support mobility.

Her active ability is BonBon.

With her 4-star Movement Speed and 4-star Stealth, Cocoa is designed to function as a support Toon rather than a pure distractor or extractor. Her Active Ability, BonBon, lets her place small candy items on the ground that provide a +50% Extraction Speed and +25% Movement Speed boost for 10 seconds to whoever picks them up. This dual buff makes her one of the most versatile support characters in the game, capable of accelerating Floor progression and aiding teammates in danger simultaneously.

Strategically placing BonBons near players working on Machines with slow Extraction Speed, or dropping them in the path of low-mobility Toons being chased, can make a significant difference for your team. When a teammate is extracting a Machine, dropping a BonBon right next to them before or during the process cuts extraction time substantially, which is especially valuable for slower extractors who would otherwise be vulnerable for extended periods. Surplus BonBons that nobody needs immediately can be left for a Sprout or Ginger to collect, helping them accumulate Tapes for their Abilities. In general, distributing BonBons next to Machines and across the map benefits both teammates and Cocoa herself. Remember that the cap is 10 BonBons per Floor, so avoid hoarding them in one spot and instead spread them out to cover key chokepoints and Machine clusters.

Cocoa can also consume her own BonBons, which is essential for compensating her 2-star Extraction Speed. Using BonBons on herself speeds up Floor progression noticeably, and the Movement Speed boost is equivalent to a Speed Candy effect but lasts twice as long. Combined with her already strong 4-star mobility, this makes her very difficult to catch when sprinting. This self-buff strategy also helps conserve her limited 2-star Stamina of 125, which is her most significant weakness. Because sprinting drains Stamina quickly, the Movement Speed buff from a BonBon can substitute for sprinting in many situations, allowing Cocoa to walk at an elevated pace without burning through her reserves.

Despite her high Stealth, Cocoa can serve as a capable off-distractor when equipped with speed-boost BonBons. She can place BonBons along her planned route and consume them to gain distance from faster Twisteds, counteract the Slow Debuff inflicted by enemies like Twisted Finn, or escape during Panic Mode when all Twisteds become aggressive. To distract effectively, consider joining rounds with multiple high-Stealth Toons (4 Stars and above) so that Twisteds are more likely to target you instead of stealthier teammates, and equip standard distractor Trinkets like Dog Plush paired with Speedy Shoes or Train Whistle. For duo-distracting, Clown Horn or Ribbon Spool combined with Dog Plush pushes Cocoa's walk speed to 21, enough to outwalk most Twisteds. If you equip Scrapbook, you can lower your Stealth to draw aggro away from other 4-star Stealth Toons, though note that Scrapbook will not reduce Stealth enough to reliably pull Twisteds off 3-star Stealth and below teammates.

For Trinket builds, Cocoa benefits from three main setups. Mobility builds center on Dog Plush (19.3 walk speed) paired with Speedy Shoes (20.2 walk speed) for general distracting, or Vanity Mirror for Panic Mode escapes (35.75 run speed). Train Whistle is another strong pairing that prevents the Slow Debuff from hindering your movement, particularly useful against Twisted Vee or during Ichor Leaks. Extraction builds use Magnifying Glass to leverage her 3-star Skill Check (100.5 skill check size with the Trinket), paired with Vee's Remote for faster Floor-wide progression or Participation Award to maximize Skill Check extraction output at an average of 27.95 per check. Ability-focused builds run Ghost Snakes In A Can (reducing BonBon cooldown to 35 seconds) plus Sweet Charm (further reducing to 32 seconds), maximizing BonBon uptime for the team. Glazed Fondant Bag is especially strong in solo runs or lobbies with multiple Cocoas, as it directly enhances the buff that each BonBon provides. For stamina management, consider Bone or Feather Duster, which grant small speed or stamina boosts for every BonBon collected, synergizing naturally with Cocoa's frequent Ability use.

Appearance

Cocoa is a light brown chocolate bunny Toon with a brown heart-shaped nose and warm brown-tinted cheeks. She has two sets of two eyelashes beneath each eye and a darker brown drizzle of chocolate running between her eyes, giving her a distinctive candy-coated look. Her ears are long and floppy, dark on the inside, and tied together at the top with a white scrunchie that forms a ponytail-like silhouette. A fluffy white collar of whipped cream encircles her neck, and she sports a small white tail. Her arms and legs feature a smooth gradient from light brown to a deeper chocolate brown toward the extremities, ending in dark brown heart-shaped paws. Compared to most Toons, Cocoa has a noticeably chubbier build, sharing this trait with Dandy, Rudie, and Bobette.

Personality

Cocoa is a warm, lively, and genuinely cheerful Toon who consistently goes out of her way to assist those around her. She firmly believes that every Toon deserves help, even the so-called wrong types, whether they ask for it or not. As shown in her interaction with Eggson, she frequently overextends herself in her eagerness to be useful, sometimes pushing help on others before finally stepping back. She demonstrates strong persistence in standing by her beliefs and maintains an unwavering optimism. In her conversations with Bassie, Cocoa continues to regard her as a close friend, seemingly unaware of the deep resentment and jealousy Bassie harbors toward her. This dynamic reveals a trusting, perhaps naive side to Cocoa, though it also underscores the sincerity of her kindness.

Trivia

  • Cocoa is the second bipedal Toon with non-plantigrade legs and feet, preceded by Rudie and followed by Eclipse.
  • Originally, Cocoa could spawn an unlimited number of BonBons simultaneously, but this was changed in v0.8.4 to a cap of 10 BonBons per Floor.
  • This limit was introduced to prevent players from flooding a single Floor with excessive BonBons to farm Tapes or Machines, and to stop them from arranging BonBons into inappropriate drawings or messages.
  • BonBons are established as Cocoa's favorite treats, referenced through her dialogue lines, her Active Ability, and her exchange with Cosmo.
  • The friendship between Cocoa and Bassie is notably complicated. Bassie acts cold toward Cocoa despite Cocoa's consistent friendliness, as seen in their shared dialogue.
  • This tension stems from Bassie's hidden jealousy, fueled by Delilah's apparent preference for Cocoa as the Easter Main Character.
  • Cocoa and Yatta may be friends, supported by a Mastery quest requiring survival of 20 Floors with Yatta and their friendly interactions with each other.
  • During their interaction, Yatta mentions wanting to eat Cocoa, believing her to be made of actual chocolate.
  • Cocoa is the first and only non-Main Character Toon to have a plush version of herself visible on the Easter Floor, possibly because Delilah had intended her to become the Easter Main Character.
  • She is also the first non-Main Character to receive an official real-life plush.
  • Like Dandy, Rudie, and Bobette, Cocoa has a noticeably chubbier build than most Toons, making her the third canonically chubby character.
  • Converting Cocoa from 2D art to a 3D model was among the most difficult for the developers, primarily due to her snout. Coal presented similar challenges. It reportedly took more than 7 to 9 attempts to properly model Cocoa's snout.
  • Her Active Ability is labeled Bonbon in the Lobby and Bassie's Store. A previous bug in the Elevator intermission screen displayed it as Chocolate Bunny, which has since been corrected.
  • Her name references the cacao seed used to produce chocolate, fitting for a character designed as a chocolate Easter bunny.
  • Cocoa is the first Toon whose Mastery challenges do not require using her Active Ability. Although one quest involves eating 35 BonBons, another Cocoa player can spawn one for you, technically making her Mastery completable without ever activating the Ability. The Blind Grab and Lost and Found Cards offer another route, though this method is far less reliable due to RNG and limited uses per run.
  • Her official voice actor is Toastymarshmellow, who performs her part in the song Wilting. This makes Cocoa the fifth Holiday Toon (alongside Bassie) to have an official voice actor, after the three Christmas Toons (excluding Coal).
  • She was the first Non-Main Toon to receive a Security Recording without any other Toons present in the scene.
  • It is suggested that Cocoa indirectly contributed to Bassie's transformation into her Twisted form. Cocoa's widespread popularity and visibility are thought to have amplified Bassie's deep-seated fear of being replaced, as depicted in the Wilting music video. Conversely, Bassie could potentially be connected to Cocoa's own Twisted transformation, though evidence for this is minimal beyond the ending scene of Wilting and Cocoa's seemingly injured state.
