Train Whistle Trinket Guide

Appearance

Train Whistle is a dull gold whistle attached to a chain. Each link on the chain is one of the seven different colors (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and indigo), matching Dyle's color scheme. Ichor appears to be dripping from inside it.

Strategies

This Trinket is helpful if you have the following Twisteds on the Floor that apply the Slow Debuff and you are playing as a Toon with lower mobility: Twisted Finn (applies Slow III for 6 seconds upon Machine completion), Twisted Vee (applies Slow II for 5 seconds upon a chase), Twisted Rodger (applies Slow III and Confused III upon activation — note this Trinket does not also make you immune to Confused III), and Twisted Bassie during the Easter Event (spawns flowers applying Slow III and Tired II — note Tired II is not nullified).

This Trinket is most valuable when distracting Twisted Vee, making problematic Twisted combos with Vee like Twisted Pebble/Twisted Astro much easier to handle. Twisted Vee is a Main Character, so she won't spawn often until higher Floors, but it is really good if you aim for Floor 100 or higher. It is great to have Train Whistle as a backup distractor for higher Floors where Twisted Vee's spawn rate will be high.

Train Whistle can also be a very helpful counter to Ichor Leaks, as the Ichor puddles spawned apply Slow I for 5 seconds when stepping on them. Two Debuffs with different levels can stack, so being slowed by Twisted Vee then walking through an Ichor puddle creates a more significant Movement Speed decrease. Note that Train Whistle only nullifies the Slow Debuff — it won't nullify other sources of slowness, such as Brick or Brusha's Ability. Ribecca is already immune to all Debuffs, so using this Trinket on her is redundant.

Best Users and Matchups

Train Whistle is not a generic comfort pick. It is a counter trinket for specific bad floors and specific bad Twisted combinations. Distractors, backup distractors, and lower-mobility Toons get the most from it because Slow is usually what converts a manageable chase into a guaranteed hit.

It is especially valuable against Twisted Vee floors, Vee plus Astro combinations, Rodger activations in unstable rooms, and long-run conditions where Ichor puddles stack extra pressure on already slow players. The better your team plays into deep floors, the more valuable a direct counter like Train Whistle becomes.

When to Use It and When to Leave It Out

Use Train Whistle when your run target includes deep floors, Vee-heavy pools, Ichor Leak pressure, or a Toon that cannot afford to lose even a small amount of movement during chase recovery. It is often stronger as a planned answer than as a default slot.

Skip it in general-purpose builds where Slow is not the main reason you lose runs. If your issues are machine tempo, low Stamina, or weak pathing, movement, stamina, or extraction trinkets will usually outperform Train Whistle on average. Ribecca also has little reason to equip it because she already ignores Debuffs.

Train Whistle is historically significant as the first Debuff-nullifying Trinket.

• Train Whistle is the first and currently the only Trinket to nullify a Debuff. It is also the second thing in general to nullify a Debuff, with the first being the Eject Button item and the third being Ribecca's Passive Ability.
• Train Whistle is the second Lethal-type Trinket, the first being Dandy Plush.
• Train Whistle is the sixth Trinket to get a plush version, with Memory Locket (first), Star Pillow (second), Vee's Remote (third), Bone (fourth), and Whispering Flower (fifth) preceding it.
