Twisted Razzle & Dazzle

Twisted Razzle & Dazzle are a stationary Uncommon Twisted that spawns at a random location on the map surrounded by a circle of dark red, vine-like ribbons. Unlike most Twisteds, they are completely harmless while idle and will not react to Toons who walk through their territory or even stand directly in their line of sight. Their hostile state only activates when a Toon sprints inside the ribbon circle, at which point they launch Ichor-stained ribbons upward from the ground beneath the offending Toon, dealing one Heart of damage per strike. Importantly, they cannot be provoked by Air Horn usage, Pebble's Active Ability, or any other sound-based alert, making them unique among Twisteds in that only physical sprinting within their designated zone triggers aggression.

Mechanic

If a Toon runs within the dark red ribbon circle around them, their hostile state will activate. Upon spotting a Toon, they will cause vines to shoot up from the ground underneath the Toon, stabbing at their feet and causing one Heart's worth of damage. If 15 seconds pass without a Toon entering their circle during their hostile state, they will return to their idle position.

Appearance

In their idle or sleeping state, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle's heads are split in half with Ichor filling the gap between them. Twisted Razzle wears a sly, sharp-toothed grin beneath a red facial shadow, while Twisted Dazzle displays a sorrowful frown with a blue shadow over his face, echoing their Toon counterpart's dual personality. Twisted Dazzle's eye is subtly different from Twisted Razzle's — both feature red pupils and black irises, but Dazzle has an additional black dot in the center of his red pupil. Their scarf-like neck wraps around and ties to a heavy gray weight, anchoring them in place. Both of their hands are coated in Ichor, and they attack players within their ribbon circle using Ichor-stained ribbons that burst from the ground in a vine-like fashion.

In their passive state, their faces are pressed together with eyes and mouth closed, and they curl into a fetal position. When they strike a Toon, Twisted Razzle's expression turns more wickedly gleeful, while Twisted Dazzle squeezes his eye shut and grimaces in distress, shedding Ichor tears.

Description

Once activated, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle remain in their hostile state and will continue attacking any Toon within their circle and line of sight, regardless of whether that Toon is currently sprinting. This means that even walking through an already-aggravated circle is dangerous. Their hostility persists for 15 seconds after the last Toon enters the circle, after which they return to their passive idle position. Line of sight is critical to their mechanic — any wall or object positioned between them and a Toon will block their attack entirely, even if the Toon is standing inside the ribbon circle. This creates opportunities to safely trigger them for Research credit by sprinting into the circle and quickly ducking behind cover before the ribbons connect.

Their ribbons have notable collision properties that can catch players off guard. The vine-like projections can clip through walls, spawn on top of Machines, vans, and other obstacles, and may even extend into the Elevator area before it opens. However, ribbons that reach inside the Elevator cannot actually harm players within it, similar to how Twisted Sprout's tendrils behave. Because Twisted Razzle & Dazzle are anchored in place by the heavy weight tied to their neck ribbon, they never reposition, which means their threat zone is fixed and predictable once you identify their spawn location at the start of a Floor.

How to Deal With Twisted Razzle & Dazzle

Twisted Razzle & Dazzle are harmless as long as you avoid sprinting within their ribbon circle and their placement does not interfere with key objectives like Machines or distraction routes. Since they cannot be triggered by Air Horn, Pebble's Active Ability, or other sound-based alerts, managing them simply comes down to being mindful of where you sprint.

The primary threat they pose is to distractors. Kiting dangerous Twisteds like Twisted Pebble or Twisted Vee near their circle can be extremely hazardous, since those pursuits often require sprinting. Whenever possible, select distraction paths that steer clear of Twisted Razzle & Dazzle's area, or plan alternate routes to avoid them entirely.

Extracting Machines near their circle requires extra awareness. Periodically check your surroundings if no distractors are present or if the current distractor shares your Stealth level or lower. Alert your teammates that you are working within their range so nobody inadvertently triggers the ribbons by sprinting near you.

Several Toons have tools that help deal with or bypass Twisted Razzle & Dazzle: *Connie: Her Haunting Escape ability makes her invisible to all non-Lethal Twisteds, meaning she can pass through or remain in the circle without triggering the attack, provided her ability is active. Be mindful of its short duration, as mistiming it can cost you a Heart. *Flutter and Rudie: Their Floaty Dash and Antler Charge abilities respectively will not trigger Twisted Razzle & Dazzle as long as the Toon is not also sprinting. This allows safer and faster traversal through the circle, and both abilities can help escape the area if the ribbons are already activated. *Goob: His Hug! ability can pull teammates back if they accidentally run into the danger zone. **Similarly, Scraps can use Crafty Grapple to latch onto Toons or Machines on the far side of the circle, or to pull herself out if caught inside. Glisten's Reflection offers comparable mobility with the added benefit of wall teleportation, though it does not work on Machines. *Teagan (situational): Her Tea Time ability makes healing from ribbon damage straightforward, whether you took a hit from Twisted Razzle & Dazzle themselves or from another Twisted because you chose not to sprint. However, this does not help her escape the circle itself.

If you want to farm Tapes, Research, or Event Currencies from Twisted Razzle & Dazzle, communicate with your team first. Confirm that nobody needs to pass through their area before intentionally running into the circle. Note that you must be within their line of sight when activating them to receive the encounter credit — triggering from outside their vision will not count. Doing this during Panic Mode after everyone else is safely in the elevator is a viable tactic, though be prepared for the Stamina cost of reaching the elevator afterward.

For distractors, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle create a particular complication during Panic Mode. Toons with 4-Star or lower Movement Speed typically need to sprint during Panic Mode since they cannot outwalk most Twisteds, and the ribbon circle can directly interfere with escape routes. Support Toons like Bobette, Flyte, and Tisha can help reduce the need to sprint, though this introduces the risk of those support Toons getting hurt. Tisha should walk toward the distractor to apply her boost from outside the circle, leveraging her large AOE range, then head to the elevator. Flyte should walk into the circle, place a gust inside, and walk out before sprinting once clear, or place the gust on the circle's border. Both Tisha and Flyte can often walk the entire time thanks to their high speed. Bobette, if solar distracting, should get a head start at the beginning of Panic Mode, complete one or two more loops, then walk through the circle and begin sprint-tapping once clear. Let the distractor lag slightly behind to avoid forcing Bobette to catch up with her average speed. If Bobette is not solar distracting, she should hover near the circle's edge closest to the elevator and begin moving toward it as soon as the distractor enters her aura ring and receives the speed boost, avoiding entry into the circle if possible since her average walk speed makes it more dangerous compared to Tisha or Flyte.

Trivia

  • Their dual idle and hostile states mirror their Toon counterpart's Passive Ability, which alternates between two states.
  • They are among the first Twisteds to feature two distinct states (hostile and non-hostile), alongside Twisted Rodger. Later Twisteds with dual states include Twisted Glisten (passive and enraged), Twisted Connie (not possessing and possessing a Machine), Twisted Coal (non-Blackout and Blackout Floors), and Twisted Gourdy (passive and enraged).
  • Twisted Razzle & Dazzle share numerous similarities with Twisted Rodger: both are Uncommon, stationary, male, require Toon activation to attack, possess two states, and have ranged attacks that bypass Cardboard Armor. Both were released in the game's launch update, and both of their Toon counterparts share identical stat distributions of 3-Star Skill Check, Stamina, and Stealth. In Roleplay Mode, both have unique walking and running animations borrowed from their Toon counterparts.
  • If not considering Dazzle, both Twisted Razzle and Twisted Rodger's names start with the letter R.
  • Like Twisted Rodger and Twisted Connie, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle must be activated by a Toon in order to attack.
  • They are among the first Twisteds with a ranged attack capability, alongside Twisted Goob, Twisted Rodger, and Twisted Scraps. Later ranged Twisteds include Twisted Sprout, Twisted Gigi, and Twisted Blot.
  • Among ranged Twisteds, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle, Twisted Rodger, Twisted Sprout, and Twisted Blot are the only ones whose attacks cannot be blocked by Cardboard Armor.
  • Their ribbons can clip through walls, spawn on top of Machines, vans, and other obstacles, and may even extend into the Elevator area before it opens. However, ribbons inside the Elevator cannot harm players, similar to how Twisted Sprout's tendrils behave.
  • Any wall or object positioned between them and a Toon will block their attack, as they still require line of sight to strike. However, to earn Research credit from encountering them, you only need to activate them while in their line of sight — you do not need to actually take damage. Running into the circle and quickly ducking behind cover or sprinting back out is sufficient.
  • Their stationary nature stems from the heavy weight tied to their neck ribbon. The origin of this weight and why they are bound to it remains unknown.
  • They are among the first stationary Twisteds alongside Twisted Rodger, with Twisted Blot being added later. Twisted Gourdy could also be considered stationary, though only during his passive state.
  • As stationary Twisteds, they have unique walking and running animations in Roleplay Mode that are borrowed from their Toon counterparts.
  • Twisted Razzle & Dazzle's circle in Yatta's thumbnail is much smaller than it appears in-game. If the thumbnail were to replicate the actual size, it would either sacrifice quality, obscure the Twisteds themselves, or obscure some of the ribbons.
  • Their circle was increased in size after v0.10.1.
  • Their attack expression cannot be used in Roleplay Mode for unknown reasons, and it may be a bug that will be fixed in a later patch.
  • When attacking, Twisted Dazzle closes his eye while Twisted Razzle's grin becomes more maniacal, similar to how Twisted Bassie's attack face functions.
  • Their Research Capsule displays the name RazzleDazzle rather than their proper name, which occurs because the capsule system derives names by removing Monster from the asset identifier. Their asset is named RazzleDazzleMonster, resulting in the condensed label. This is the first instance of a Research Capsule showing a different name, with the second being Twisted Blot whose capsule reads Blott. For Twisted Razzle & Dazzle, the name remains in-game since it is not technically a spelling error.
  • They were among the first Twisteds to feature a visibly broken head, alongside Twisted Toodles. Later Twisteds with this trait include Twisted Glisten, Twisted Gigi, Twisted Bobette, Twisted Ginger, and Twisted Ribecca. Twisted Boxten and Twisted Rudie could also count due to his possibly broken clasp and broken left antler, respectively.
  • They are also among the first Twisteds to have Ichor visible inside of their heads, alongside Twisted Boxten and Twisted Toodles. Later Twisteds with exposed Ichor include Twisted Shelly, Twisted Glisten, Twisted Finn, Twisted Gigi, Twisted Bobette, Twisted Bassie, and Twisted Ribecca.
  • In the game files, Twisted Razzle & Dazzle's sitting-down pose was labeled as a lost interest animation.
