Twisted Sprout
When Twisted Sprout detects a Toon, he halts his movement and spawns a pool of Ichor at that Toon's current position. The pool contains a tendril that, after a brief delay, lashes out at anyone who lingers too close. This ability operates on a 10-second cooldown, and each tendril persists for 15 seconds before disappearing. Because of this timing, a maximum of two tendrils can exist on the Floor at any given moment. However, there is no upper limit on how many tendrils he can summon over the course of a sustained chase, meaning prolonged encounters will litter the area with successive hazard zones.

Mechanic
When detecting a Toon, Twisted Sprout will leave a deadly tendril under the detected Toon, attacking anyone that steps on it for too long. Has a cooldown of 10. If Twisted Cosmo is on the floor as well, Twisted Sprout will occasionally follow him. He will also sometimes stop to look at posters of his Toon counterpart.
Appearance
Twisted Sprout closely resembles his Toon counterpart but stands noticeably taller and is nearly consumed by Ichor, lending him a heavily desaturated color palette that strips away most of the vibrancy of the original. His legs, mouth, and left arm are coated in dark Ichor, with the left arm grotesquely swollen to a much larger size than the right and tipped with what appears to be a massive claw formed entirely from Ichor. The leaves of his hair are longer, more pointed, and duller than those of his Toon counterpart, and his bangs droop down to obscure his left eye entirely. The tuft of leaves crowning his head is twisted and stained with Ichor, and several additional leaves sprout from behind his neck, giving him a more overgrown and unkempt silhouette. His scarf remains white with thin pink stripes but is now elongated with a sharp, Ichor-covered tip and seems to move with a life of its own, as though it were sentient. His single visible eye is red with a small pupil, consistent with most other Twisteds, and appears to weep Ichor continuously. His blush is smeared messily across his face. When he spots a Toon, his expression shifts from passive unease to one of deeper, more visible sadness.
Description
When Twisted Sprout detects a Toon, he halts his movement and spawns a pool of Ichor at that Toon's current position. The pool contains a tendril that, after a brief delay, lashes out at anyone who lingers too close. This ability operates on a 10-second cooldown, and each tendril persists for 15 seconds before disappearing. Because of this timing, a maximum of two tendrils can exist on the Floor at any given moment. However, there is no upper limit on how many tendrils he can summon over the course of a sustained chase, meaning prolonged encounters will litter the area with successive hazard zones.
While roaming, Twisted Sprout will occasionally follow Twisted Cosmo if both are present on the same Floor, creating a dangerous pairing where encountering one may lead to an unexpected confrontation with the other. He also exhibits a unique behavioral habit of pausing to look at posters featuring his Toon counterpart, Sprout, which briefly interrupts his patrol route and can provide a narrow window of opportunity for observant players.
Notably, Twisted Sprout is the slowest Main Twisted in the game with a walk speed of 8.5 and a chase speed of 17, despite his Toon counterpart boasting the second-highest mobility among Main Characters. This relatively low speed means that fast Toons can outwalk him by a slim margin under normal conditions, though Panic Mode significantly increases his speed and closes this gap. His true danger lies not in raw pursuit speed but in the cumulative pressure of his tendril placement, which restricts movement options and forces players into increasingly tight corridors of safety over time.
How to Deal With Twisted Sprout
Since Twisted Sprout can place stationary tendrils at a Toon's current location, the first priority is to vacate any Machine before entering his detection range. If a tendril spawns directly on your workspace, you will be forced to abandon it until the tendril dissipates after 15 seconds, costing valuable time. Plan your Machine routes with awareness of where he is patrolling and try to complete tasks near the edges of rooms where you can quickly step out of range.
When distracting Twisted Sprout, avoid cramped rooms with limited exits. His tendrils can quickly block narrow doorways and corridors, turning a manageable encounter into a death trap. Rooms with multiple exits are far safer because even if one path is blocked by a tendril, alternative routes remain open. In open areas, hug one side of an island or the outer walls to minimize the effective area each tendril covers. With precise timing and diagonal movement along the edges of a tendril zone, it is possible to pass through without taking damage, since the attack triggers only after a brief delay.
His short 10-second cooldown and persistent tendril placement are particularly punishing for slower or low-Stamina Toons such as Shrimpo, Gigi, or Soulvester. Sprinting while he is actively deploying tendrils is an effective way to shake him, so always keep Stamina in reserve for these encounters. If paired with a slow Twisted like Twisted Shrimpo on the same Floor, Twisted Sprout's constant halting to summon tendrils can actually make him slower in practice than his companion, but this does not make him any less dangerous since the tendrils themselves do the real work.
Because his tendrils are physical ground hazards, try to keep him separated from Twisted Razzle and Dazzle whenever possible. If their attack zones overlap, you can end up with nearly impassable areas where ribbon hazards and tendril pools stack on top of each other. Like Twisted Razzle and Dazzle's ribbons, his tendrils can be avoided even after stepping into the attack radius if you exit quickly enough before the damage triggers. Note that a small sliver of area around each tendril extends slightly beyond the visible Ichor puddle but still falls within the hitbox, meaning you can take damage from seemingly safe positions near the edge.
During Blackouts, his tendrils become extremely difficult to spot because of their dark coloring, similar to Twisted Blot's hands. Keep your camera angled forward and be prepared to sprint at a moment's notice. There is no reliable way to identify him as the pursuer until the first tendril appears, so stay vigilant at all times. Lowering your graphics settings can improve visibility during Blackouts. Spare Bulb and the Sparkplug Card can also help, though their utility is limited against other Twisteds in the long run. Playing as light-producing Toons such as Eclipse offers a more versatile solution that benefits you against multiple threats.
If Twisted Cosmo shares the Floor and you are not serving as the distractor, avoid letting Cosmo spot you. Twisted Sprout frequently trails behind him, which means getting noticed by Cosmo could draw both Twisteds to your position simultaneously. This is especially dangerous because Twisted Sprout's 3-second attention span is relatively long for a Main Twisted, giving him more time to deploy tendrils while Cosmo pressures you with direct pursuit. Unlike most Main Twisteds who match or exceed standard chase speeds, Twisted Sprout's walk speed of 8.5 allows 4-Star Movement Speed Toons and Looey at 2 Hearts or below to outrun him comfortably and even outwalk him without Movement Speed Trinkets, though by a very slim margin. Keep in mind that Panic Mode significantly boosts his speed, closing this gap considerably.
Trivia
- He is the second Twisted with a ranged attack, following the initial group of Twisted Goob, Twisted Razzle and Dazzle, Twisted Rodger, and Twisted Scraps. He was later followed by Twisted Gigi and Twisted Blot.
- He is the first and currently only ranged Main Twisted, and uniquely, his ranged attack cannot be avoided simply by hiding behind obstacles.
- He is the first Twisted whose ability spawns a persistent ground trap, followed by Twisted Bassie and Twisted Blot. His tendrils function similarly to Twisted Blot's traps, as both are dark-colored hazards that appear and disappear on a timer and damage Toons who remain in contact too long.
- His ranged attack, along with those of Twisted Razzle and Dazzle, Twisted Rodger, and Twisted Blot, cannot be blocked by Cardboard Armor.
- Twisted Sprout and Twisted Cosmo have matching Ichor distribution patterns, as confirmed by the developer Qwelver on Discord. Sprout's Ichor covers his left eye and arm, while Cosmo's covers his right eye and arm, mirroring their Toon counterparts' close relationship.
- He is the tallest Main Twisted in the game, excluding Twisted Astro and Twisted Gigi's T-pose model, with Twisted Bobette being the second tallest.
- His idle growling sounds originate from Half Life 2's Poison Zombie audio files (pz_breathe_loop1 and pz_alert2). His original screeches and growls were sourced from Left 4 Dead's Hunter special infected (warn sound and hunter_stalk_04). The warn sound appeared to be a blend of hunter_warn_16 and hunter_warn_14.
- The original sounds were replaced in v0.11.1 due to the developer's copyright concerns.
- He is the only standard Main Twisted that does not use the tackled_1 sound effect when attacking Toons.
- He is among the Twisteds that attack in two different ways, his standard melee strike and his tendril deployment, alongside Twisted Goob and Twisted Scraps. Of these, he is the only non-Rare Twisted.
- He is the second Twisted to have a persistent area-denial attack following Twisted Razzle and Dazzle, with Twisted Blot being the third. Twisted Razzle and Dazzle's area is considerably larger, while Twisted Blot's has no visible boundary. Twisted Bassie also has an area effect, but it applies a slow rather than dealing damage.
- If a Toon remains in a tendril's radius long enough, either through using Savory Charm or multiple Health Kits to survive, they will be teleported to a random nearby location.
- He was the first Twisted to appear on the Daily Twisted Board three consecutive times before being replaced by Twisted Flutter.
- Like Twisted Razzle and Dazzle's ribbons, his tendrils can spawn inside the Elevator area, but they will not harm players who are inside.
- The Ichor patch covering his eye coincides with the caramel placement on his Toon counterpart's Salted Caramel skin, though it is unknown whether this was intentional.
- Despite his Toon counterpart having the second-highest mobility among Main Characters with 4-Star Movement Speed, Twisted Sprout is the slowest Main Twisted.
- A small area around each tendril extends slightly beyond the visible Ichor puddle but still falls within the tendril's hitbox, meaning you can take damage from seemingly safe positions near the edge.
- His face texture was accidentally used in Sprout's Chocoberry skin hurt face due to a bug, which has since been fixed.
- His sound design was overhauled in v0.11.1, with new footstep, chase, and disengage sounds. This made him the first Twisted to have his audio redesigned, with Twisted Pebble being the second.
- Several of his audio clips contain what sounds like audible voice lines saying Cosmo... Cos... mo..., though the developer Qwelver has not confirmed whether the audio actually contains words. This makes him the first character in the game with what appear to be spoken voice lines. The voice actor and source of this audio remain unknown.
- He was the first Twisted to receive behavioral habits in the AI system, specifically his tendency to follow Twisted Cosmo and to pause at posters of his Toon counterpart. Twisted Squirm does not count as his habits were added simultaneously with his release after the Twisted AI rework.
- In v0.18.1, his animations received minor polish adjustments as noted by animator JoeyStix, making him the first Twisted to have animations updated after initial optimization.
- He is the second Twisted with a custom attack sound, after Twisted Bobette and before Twisted Gourdy. He is the only one with more than one custom attack sound, having three, and the only non-seasonal Main Twisted with custom attack audio.
- If paired with a slow Twisted like Twisted Shrimpo, despite being faster than him, Twisted Sprout's constant halting to summon tendrils could actually make him slower in practice.
- During v0.11.1, there was a bug where Twisted Sprout could bypass invisible barriers and jump over props on the Floors. This was later fixed, but the bug was reused as inspiration for Twisted Cocoa's rework where she gained the ability to jump over obstacles.
- Twisted Sprout appears to have a different hitbox in Roleplay Mode compared to the main game, as he can climb and jump over most obstacles in Roleplay Mode, a behavior likely kept for player entertainment.
