Unlocking Research

There are two ways to obtain Research. Research Capsules spawn two per Twisted on each Floor, giving 1% Research on the corresponding Twisted. Capsules are client-sided, meaning even if you pick one up, it remains for other players. Encountering a Twisted gives 5% Research, limited to once per floor per Twisted. The research is given at the same time as Tapes. You do not need to take damage to gain Research — being detected is enough.

• Twisted Rodger appears as a fake capsule lacking the tapes in the middle. If picked up, he attacks and applies Confused III and Slow III.
• Twisted Razzle & Dazzle and Twisted Rodger must be awake and the user must be in their line of sight to obtain encounter research.
• Twisted Glisten and Twisted Connie are counted as encountered even if not in an aggressive state, but require being in their aggro radius.
• Twisted Blot is the only Twisted to not give research by going near him. Instead, you need to go near the hands Twisted Blot summons.
• Rodger gains double Research: Capsules give 2%, encounters give 10%.

Twisteds Menu

You can view your Research progress in the Twisteds Menu. Clicking on a Twisted's icon opens the sidebar with a render, name, rarity, and your current research percentage.

• 0% Research: Twisted icon is a silhouette. Description reads "Encounter this Twisted to begin research!"
• 1% Research: Silhouette replaced by a cropped render. Sidebar displays full render, name, and rarity.
• 50% Research: Unlocks the Twisted's description explaining the Twisted and often its abilities.
• 100% Research: Unlocks a Trinket at no cost. These Trinkets are generally more powerful than those found in Dandy's Store.

Toons That Require Research

Some Toons require Research on Twisteds to be unlocked.

• Every Main Toon requires 100% research on their Twisted counterpart.
• Scraps requires 50% research on Twisted Goob.
• Astro technically requires 5% research on Twisted Dandy from encountering him — the lowest research requirement in the game.
• Flutter requires 100% research on Twisted Flutter — the first non-Main Toon requiring 100%.
• Brusha requires 25% research on Twisted Brusha — the only Toon requiring only 25%.
• Connie, Flyte, Gigi, Ginger, Glisten, Soulvester, Squirm, and Yatta all require 50% Research on their respective Twisted counterparts.
• Rodger requires 50% Research on any Twisted — the first time a Research requirement isn't specific to one Twisted.
• Cocoa requires 100% Research on 5 different Twisteds.

Research Strategy

For the most Research per Floor, play as Rodger, get both Capsules for the Twisted you want to research, then encounter the Twisted. If done correctly, you get 14% Research every time the Twisted spawns on a floor. This allows you to complete a Twisted's research in 7 encounters as Rodger plus another capsule. • Twisted Dandy and Twisted Dyle are the only Twisteds to have their description not feature any clear advice.
• Most normal Toons that require research on their Twisted counterparts are classified as Rare. Connie, Flyte, Ginger, Soulvester, Yatta and Brusha are the only exceptions.
• Twisted Rodger is the only Twisted who is in a research capsule.
• Twisted Blot is the only Twisted to not give research by going near him — you must go near his hands.
