Appearance

Diary is a book with a light purple cover with a pink, heart-shaped lock (resembling Flutter's head) keeping it sealed. The lock is attached to the book with a cyan strip that has darker, purple stripes on the edges. There is a thin, pink rectangle attached to the strip.

Strategies

Diary is a decent survivalist Trinket, being used mainly for Toons who have the same Stealth as the distractor and for Solar Kiting as Bobette. There aren't many other uses for it aside from that, so it becomes rather useless in scenarios where those aren't possible.

The aforementioned Solar Kiting is a strategy where a Bobette player walks counter-clockwise from a 2-Star Stealth distractor. Since Bobette has the same Stealth as the distractor, Diary comes in handy to avoid being seen by the Twisteds while walking through them. Note that Diary is not helpful when the distractor has lower Stealth than Bobette, like when they use Scrapbook or use a 1-Star Stealth distractor.

Using this Trinket as a 'Stealth extractor' is also a bonus to Diary's effects, as it'll allow the extractor with Diary to keep extracting without getting out of the way if a distractor comes near. Please note Diary does NOT work on Brightney or Gourdy, due to their 1-Star Stealth giving them 0 Stealth units. An exception is Shrimpo due to his Passive giving him negative Stealth, so Diary would actually decrease his Stealth further instead of improving it.

Best Users and Role Fit

Diary is not a generic stealth pick. It is strongest on Toons and lobbies where exact aggro thresholds matter. Bobette is the clearest example because Solar Kiting depends on small visibility margins. Astro, Connie, and other already-stealthy Toons can also use Diary to make risky Machines and room crossings safer, but the trinket is still best when you are deliberately playing around Stealth rather than just hoping to be seen less often.

As a result, Diary is much more of a role tool than a universal best-in-slot. If your lobby has a clean distractor and your extractor keeps losing value because Twisteds peel too easily, Diary can be a real fix. If your deaths come from poor chase movement instead of aggro, movement or stamina trinkets will usually do more.

When to Use It and When Not To

Use Diary when your run plan depends on lower aggro, cleaner machine uptime near pressure, or a specific stealth interaction such as Bobette Solar Kiting. It is also a reasonable second slot when you already have enough extraction and only need to reduce attention.

Skip Diary when your Toon has no meaningful Stealth value to scale from, or when your biggest issue is surviving once a chase has already started. It is especially inefficient on Brightney and Gourdy and actively awkward on Shrimpo. In those cases, Pink Bow, Dog Plush, or a direct machine trinket gives a much clearer return.

Trivia

Diary has several notable mechanical properties and lore connections.

  • Diary does not increase Brightney and Gourdy's Stealth due to them having 1 Star in Stealth, which equals 0 Stealth units.
  • Diary also decreases Shrimpo's Stealth (-99 → -123.75), as multiplying a negative number with a positive percentage gives a larger negative number.
  • Diary used to give 2.5 units, or half a Star, before the v0.4 update. This meant Diary could have worked on Brightney before the change to a percentage increase.
  • Gigi writes in Flutter's Diary for her, as confirmed in one of their interactions and Gigi's interaction with Glisten.
  • Diary is the only Trinket that guarantees a Stealth boost. To get the greatest increase, use it with Astro or Connie (both have 5-Star Stealth), giving them effectively 6-Star Stealth.

FAQ

How do you get Diary in Dandy's World?

Diary is obtained by achieving 100% Research on Twisted Flutter. It was added on July 12, 2024, alongside Fancy Purse, Feather Duster, Participation Award, Pop Pack, and Pull Toy.

Does Diary work on all Toons in Dandy's World?

No. Diary does not work on Brightney or Gourdy since their 1-Star Stealth equals 0 Stealth units, making percentage boosts ineffective. It also reduces Shrimpo's Stealth further due to his negative Stealth value from his Passive.

Who should use Diary in Dandy's World?

Diary is best on Toons and teams that deliberately play around Stealth thresholds, especially Bobette setups, stealth extractors, and already-stealthy picks such as Astro or Connie.
