Appearance

Twisted Coal is dramatically different from her Toon counterpart and shares a striking visual resemblance to Twisted Pebble. Her body is supported by a pair of bulky Ichor legs that terminate in black feet tipped with dark gray claws, giving her a heavier and more predatory silhouette than her original form. A thick band of Ichor connects her head to her torso, and two jagged, black, rock-like ears protrude from the top of her skull. Her head is shaped similarly to a rat's, though she displays prominent canine-like front teeth rather than rodent incisors. She retains the distinctive black bone snowflake-like markings on her cheeks carried over from her Toon counterpart, providing one of the few visual links to her original identity. Her eyes are particularly unsettling, featuring red sclera, black irises, and vivid red pupils set beneath noticeably thicker eyebrows that lend her a permanently furious expression. Her large red saddlebags appear torn and battered from the Ichor transformation, yet the flag attached to them remains completely intact and undamaged.

Description

Twisted Coal's defining characteristic is the drastic speed increase she receives during Blackouts. Under normal lighting her chase speed sits at just 16, making her one of the slower Twisteds on a standard Floor. Players who encounter her in well-lit conditions generally have little to worry about, as most Toons with reasonable Movement Speed can outpace her without much difficulty.

Everything changes when the lights go out. During a Blackout, her chase speed rockets to 25, placing her on par with Twisted Bobette and matching Twisted Pebble's chase speed exactly. Her detection range also expands significantly, with her direct vision jumping from 70 to 125 and her hearing radius growing from 150 to 200. This combination of extreme speed and heightened senses transforms her from a minor inconvenience into one of the most dangerous Blackout Twisteds in the game. Her attention span actually drops from 5 seconds to 3 seconds during Blackouts, but this small window is deceptive because her speed makes it incredibly difficult to break line of sight long enough for the timer to expire.

What makes Twisted Coal especially treacherous compared to other fast Blackout Twisteds is her stealth. She produces no sound cues when chasing, effectively functioning as a silent version of Twisted Pebble. Combined with her small frame and dark color palette, she can approach and initiate a chase before players even realize she is nearby. This silent lethality means that by the time you notice Twisted Coal bearing down on you in a Blackout, your options for escape are already severely limited.

How to Deal With Twisted Coal

On normally lit Floors, Twisted Coal poses relatively little danger thanks to her low chase speed of 16. Most Toons can outrun her comfortably, but her five-second attention span makes shaking her more tedious than you might expect. She may continue tracking you around obstacles longer than other slow Twisteds, so avoid making sharp turns near islands that could accidentally bring you back into her line of sight. The most reliable escape method is to circle a table or similar object while remaining outside her field of view, allowing the attention timer to expire naturally. Maintain a steady pace and resist the urge to sprint unless you need the burst to round a corner.

During Blackouts, Twisted Coal transforms into a completely different caliber of threat. Her chase speed of 25 matches Twisted Bobette, and her direct vision extends to 125 units while her hearing radius balloons to 200. You should avoid entering her line of sight at all costs, particularly if you are playing a Toon with 2 or lower Movement Speed, as there is simply no way to outrun her at that pace. The core strategy mirrors what you would use against Twisted Bobette: prioritize remaining hidden and never assume you are safe in open space. If she does lock onto you, immediately duck behind an island and cling tightly to it while executing sharp turns to keep breaking her line of sight. Be warned that her attention span, while reduced to 3 seconds during Blackouts, still demands sustained evasion because re-entering her vision resets the timer, forcing you into longer loops that drain Stamina and raise the probability of a hit.

Her silence and dark appearance make visual detection extremely difficult in Blackout conditions, far more so than Twisted Bobette or Twisted Pebble. Because she emits no audio cues when chasing, players often do not realize she has spotted them until she is already closing the gap. Brightney's and Vee's Abilities are particularly valuable for revealing her position before she gets close. Carry speed and Stamina consumables such as Chocolates, PopPops, and Speed Candies to give yourself emergency escape options when she catches you off guard.

Players with 4 or more Movement Speed can loop Twisted Coal around an island during Blackouts effectively, provided no other roaming Twisteds interfere. Communication with teammates is essential when employing this tactic because her enormous detection range means she could easily switch targets mid-loop if another player wanders into her field of view. Coordinate who is distracting and call out your position clearly so teammates know which zones are safe to move through.

When no dedicated distractor is available, Vee's Remote becomes an invaluable tool for completing Machines in exposed areas. Using it reduces the risk of being spotted by Twisted Coal's massive vision range while you focus on objectives. Stick to map sections that offer abundant cover behind islands and avoid lingering in wide-open, highly visible areas. Because Twisted Coal gives no audible warning of her approach, you may never know she has spotted you until it is too late, making proactive positioning and map awareness the single most important survival skills against her in a Blackout.

As a general team tip, if your squad draws Twisted Coal on a Blackout Floor, assign your fastest Toon as the primary distractor and have remaining players move through the map in short, deliberate bursts between cover points. Avoid clustering together, since her hearing radius of 200 units can pull her toward groups even if no one is in direct line of sight. Stagger your Machine completions so that at least one player is always watching for incoming Twisteds while others work.

• During Blackouts, she receives a significant speed boost that puts her chase speed at 25, matching Twisted Bobette.
• In a Blackout she effectively becomes a silent version of Twisted Pebble, sharing identical speed, attention span, and detection range. The only difference is that Twisted Brusha's hearing range is 25 units less than theirs.
• Completing 100% of her Research rewards the Coal Trinket, which is the second purely disadvantageous Trinket after Brick.
• The Coal Trinket was designed to not be entirely negative. Its Movement Speed reduction was intended to offset the Stealth reduction for distractor players.
• Her attention span was originally 8 seconds before being changed to 5 on normal Floors and 3 during Blackouts, likely because players found it very difficult to shake her in a Blackout.
• Like Twisted Pebble, she has no Ichor spots on her body.
• She was the first Twisted with optimized animations but no attack face, followed by Twisted Pebble and Twisted Blot. This is most likely because attack face textures would not work well with her 3D eye models.
• Despite being optimized, she cannot blink even though a blinking texture exists in her files, similar to Twisted Glisten. This is probably a texture bug unrelated to her 3D eyes, since Coal, Pebble, and Twisted Pebble are all able to blink.
• She and Twisted Rudie were originally the first Twisteds whose in-game Research descriptions differed from their Roleplay Mode descriptions, followed by Twisted Eggson. All are Holiday Twisteds, and the descriptions were later rewritten to match.
• She has a set of rock-like ears on her head despite her Toon counterpart lacking them. Some players believe these originated from her two missing legs, as Coal has four legs while Twisted Coal has only two, possibly torn off during the Ichor transformation. Twisted Pebble shares this same feature.
