Appearance
The icon appears as a yellow crayon box with a red and blue crayon inside with a pink crayon beside the box, each one with two black stripes around the top and bottom with an unreadable white label. On the box, orange squiggle lines are seen while in the middle has a white heart with the text "Crayon" underlined and written in black.
Strategies
Crayon Set can produce the following Items: Speed Candies, Protein Bars, Instructions, Extraction Speed Candies, and Skill Check Candies. Because these are all Uncommon tier, each one only grants 3 Tapes when used. The Trinket fires at the start of every new Floor, but only if the user has at least one open inventory slot — a full inventory means the Item is lost entirely.
Due to 3 out of 5 Items in the pool being extraction-based (Extraction Speed Candies, Instructions, and Skill Check Candies), Crayon Set is more viable on Extractors like Glisten, Vee, or Yatta than on distractors. Toons with below-average mobility but high extraction stats, such as Vee or Soulvester, benefit the most because the 2 mobility Items (Protein Bars and Speed Candies) shore up their weakness while the 3 extraction Items reinforce their strength. However, Yatta deserves a special note: her Passive Ability already produces Items, including the same three candy types, so her inventory tends to fill quickly and she may miss out on the Crayon Set drop more often than other Extractors.
Like Fishing Rod, Crayon Set is useful for completing "Use Item!" Mastery quests. Toons such as Scraps or Shrimpo who have these quests can equip Crayon Set to guarantee at least one usable Item per Floor without relying on map spawns or Dandy's Shop.
Because using Items generates Tapes, Crayon Set is compatible with Toons whose Abilities scale off Tape income. Sprout, Teagan, Ginger, and Blot all gain value from the consistent, if small, Tape flow this Trinket provides — assuming an inventory slot stays open each Floor.
Best Pairings and When to Skip It
Bassie is arguably the strongest partner for Crayon Set. She can distribute each random Item to the teammate who benefits from it most, which eliminates the downside of receiving an Item your own Toon does not need. Her additional inventory space also reduces the chance of missing a drop due to a full bag. In a similar vein, Toons with 3-Star in all stats — Boxten, Eggson, Poppy, Ribecca, and Rudie — can make use of any Item the Trinket gives, since every stat boost is relevant to their balanced profile.
Pairing Crayon Set with Glazed Fondant Bag is a natural fit: the Fondant Bag can give three possible candy Items each Floor, stacking with the one from Crayon Set for a steady stream of consumables. This combination works especially well on longer runs where cumulative small boosts add up.
Dandy Runs can increase Crayon Set's viability because these shorter, restricted runs limit both run length and Item availability, making a guaranteed Uncommon Item each Floor relatively more valuable. Outside of Dandy Runs, however, Items are fairly easy to find on the map, and inventory space is tight. In standard play, a more reliable Trinket buff — such as a direct stat increase — will usually outperform Crayon Set across a full run.
Trivia
Crayon Set has changed significantly since its original release and holds several unique distinctions among Trinkets.
- When first released as a Trinket, Crayon Set only gave one Item at the beginning of a run. After v0.2, it was changed to three Items. As of the current update, the Crayon Set now gives one Uncommon Item before every Floor.
- Stealth Candy used to be included in this Item pool, but was removed in v0.7.1 as its rarity was downgraded to Common.
- Crayon Set is currently the most reliable way to get Instructions as any Toon without the use of Dandy's Shop.
- Crayon Set is the first Trinket to directly give Items to its user, with the second being Pop Pack, the third being Fishing Rod, and the fourth being Megaphone.
- Crayon Set is thematically tied to Scraps and is likely used to make Scraps' eyeliner, connecting the Trinket to its unlock requirement.
FAQ
How do you get Crayon Set in Dandy's World?
Crayon Set is unlocked by achieving 100% Research on Twisted Scraps. You need to collect Twisted Scraps research capsules across multiple runs on Floors where Twisted Scraps appears until you reach 100% completion.
What items can Crayon Set give?
Crayon Set can give Speed Candies, Protein Bars, Instructions, Extraction Speed Candies, and Skill Check Candies — all Uncommon tier items including Dandy's Shop exclusives. Each Item grants 3 Tapes when used.
Is Crayon Set good in Dandy's World?
Crayon Set is situationally useful rather than broadly powerful. It works best on Extractors like Glisten or Vee, on Bassie for item distribution, and during Dandy Runs where items are scarce. In standard play, a direct stat-boosting Trinket usually provides more consistent value.
