Toon Handlers — Dandy's World Lore Guide

Appearance and Uniform

All Toon Handlers are adult humans who wear colored shirts with white buttons, short sleeves, and long pants in darker shades matching their vests. Their boots are an even darker shade. They each wear an employee name tag on the right side bearing a symbol of their assigned Toon, and white gloves. The Toon Handlers all appear to have shadows cast over their faces by their hair, making them enigmatic figures. The color of each Handler's uniform corresponds to their assigned Toon's color scheme.

Individual Handlers

Devan Reed (He/Him) is assigned to L-001 and M-001 (Dandy and Pebble). He has dark brown hair and pale skin, wearing a dark gray shirt and pants, white vest, and black boots. Devan appears friendly in his portrait, similarly to Dandy's personality on the outside. Arthur had Devan working overtime with Dandy according to the 092 Radio Transcript.

Austin Russo (He/Him) is assigned to M-002 (Astro). He has black hair with a tuft sticking out and fair skin, with a dark blue uniform. Austin appears defensive in his portrait and is shown enforcing a rule that photographs are not allowed around Astro.

Sam Mclaughlin (They/Them) is assigned to M-003 (Sprout). They have orange hair tied back in a bun and fair skin, with a maroon uniform. Sam appears disinterested or annoyed in their portrait. The 092 Radio Transcript implies they were in charge of safety and often overworked themselves ensuring Sprout did not burn down Gardenview. Sam is the first known LGBTQ+ character in Dandy's World and the first non-binary character using they/them pronouns.

Shanon Mendez (She/Her) is assigned to M-004 (Shelly). She has blonde hair in a low ponytail and tan skin, with a brown and orange uniform. Shanon shows a caring and kind personality in her note to Shelly, where she told Shelly that Arthur was making the Handlers leave but assured her everything would be fine.

Veronica Hurley (She/Her) is assigned to M-005 (Vee). She has short brown-black hair and dark brown skin, with a green uniform. Veronica appears nervous in her portrait, contrasting Vee's confident personality. In CCTV footage, she told Vee about Delilah and Arthur's plans for Vee Version Two and offered to help change their minds.

Trivia

Several notable details connect the Toon Handlers to their assigned Toons.

• Currently, the Mains are the only Toons confirmed to have assigned Toon Handlers. The exceptions are Bobette, Bassie, Gourdy, and Dyle, whose Handler assignments are currently unknown.
• Devan, Austin, and Shanon mirror their Toons' personalities; Sam and Veronica contrast them.
• Shanon is the only Handler who does not wear the same color as her Toon — Shelly is beige, but Shanon wears orange, likely because beige clothing would look odd against her skin tone.
• All Handler names start with the same letter(s) as their respective Toons: Devan-Dandy, Austin-Astro, Sam-Sprout, Veronica-Vee, Shanon-Shelly.
• Devan is the only Handler assigned to two Toons (Dandy and Pebble), likely because Pebble is Dandy's pet dog.
• Austin was the first Handler modeled and is also Qwel's favorite.
• Sam is the first known LGBTQ+ character in Dandy's World and the first to be non-binary using they/them pronouns.
• Before the Handlers' names were revealed, Qwel referred to them as Toon Handler 1–5: Austin was 1, Shanon 2, Devan 3, Veronica 4, Sam 5.
