Strategies

Coin Purse is essentially a cheaper and worse version of Fancy Purse. Coin Purse generally is not helpful since 30 Tapes is not much, so there is no reason to use it at all. Its extremely affordable price may be somewhat helpful to starters, but 30 Tapes probably will not impact you much, if at all. Coin Purse is also outclassed by other starter Trinkets — Pink Bow and Speedy Shoes being much better choices.

Do not use this Trinket, as it generally does not contribute much in the long run, even on Sprout, Ginger, or Teagan — 30 Tapes is three Machines; there are many Trinkets that will give more Tapes even by Floor 2. To put this in perspective, a single good extraction round on any Toon with a useful ability will usually net more than 30 Tapes worth of progress, making the Coin Purse slot essentially wasted compared to a Trinket that provides ongoing value across the entire run.

Its only mid-game use is for Mastery — it can help Sprout, Teagan, Ginger, and Blot advance their Use Ability! requirements and can aid with Buy Items From Dandy/Use Items quests. Usually it fares best in short runs solely conducted for Mastery, as it is outclassed in every way past Floor 3 by Dandy Plush, Vee's Remote, or Fancy Purse.

Best Pairings and When to Skip It

Because Coin Purse provides a one-time flat Tape bonus rather than a scaling effect, there is almost no pairing that rescues its value. In theory, combining it with Fancy Purse would give you 130 extra starting Tapes (30 from Coin Purse plus 100 from Fancy Purse), but if you already own Fancy Purse there is no scenario where Coin Purse is the best use of your second Trinket slot. Pink Bow, Speedy Shoes, Dandy Plush, or any ability-focused Trinket will outperform it in that slot.

The only pairing worth considering is Coin Purse alongside Research Map during a dedicated short Mastery run. Both Trinkets are cheap, available early, and together they let you complete Buy Items From Dandy and Use Items quests quickly without needing to survive deep into the run. Once those Mastery tasks are finished, swap both out permanently.

Skip Coin Purse entirely if you have access to any Twisted Trinket, any stamina Trinket, or even Pink Bow. The 200 Ichor cost is low, but it is still Ichor that could be saved toward a more impactful purchase.

Coin Purse has several notable facts about its history and place in the Trinket roster.

• Coin Purse ties with Research Map in being the cheapest Trinket to obtain via Ichor, with both also being the easiest to complete prerequisite tasks for, with only 1 requirement. Blushy Bat is technically easier since it does not require you to play the game at all.
• Coin Purse used to cost 250 Ichor before patch 0.3.0, making it even less cost-efficient in early versions of the game.
• Coin Purse is the first Trinket to give the user Tapes, with the second being Fancy Purse.
• Both Tape-granting Trinkets are purse-themed, and Coin Purse is explicitly a worse version of Fancy Purse — mirroring how a coin purse holds less money than a fancy one.
• At 30 Tapes, Coin Purse gives exactly enough to use three Machines, which is the lowest meaningful interaction threshold in the game.
